*** Spencer's P.O.V ***
"I don't know what's worse. The pain of wondering, or the pain of knowing the truth."
"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Spencer! Happy birthday to you!" My mum, brother and little sister all sang, they had woken me up this morning with singing it around my bed until I woke up, and now they were singing it as I walked into the kitchen. There was a birthday cake sitting in the middle of the round dining table, presents in a circle surrounding it and small plates of different foods around the edge. The table was full to the brim with stuff, more of it was on the kitchen counter.
"Yay, thank you!" I squealed excitedly as I sat in the only free chair around the table, it was next to my mum and Reece with Jessie opposite me.
"Presents first?" My mum asked as she gave me a kind smile not giving me a choice as she shoved a small box towards me.
I shook the box a few times earning me a chuckle from mum as I looked at it, the wrapping paper was a bright blue and the bow on top a bright green. My mum was very bright with colours, and I was starting to dread opening it as I wouldn't know what the box would contain. Every birthday there seemed to be just that one weird present, and I was starting to think that it might be this one.
"Thank you," I said again as I carefully unwrapped the present, I did the bow first where I pulled it and it fell off. When the bow was off safely I wrapped the paper off of the box.
Inside the box, on a small velvet cushion, laid a leather bracelet.
It was black leather with a golden clasp to be able to put it on and take it off. It was something I had seen a few times and was trying to save up to get, but now I guess I didn't have to and that money could go to better things, but I guess my mum got fed up of my whining finally and decided to get me it instead. It was taking too long anyway for me to save up money and I'd been trying for the last six months. It didn't help thought, saving up I mean, when you have no job and no form of income whatsoever.
I hugged my mum tightly after putting the bracelet on my right wrist and planted a kiss on her cheek, thanking her again for the present.
"Here you go Spence," Reece pushed a similar sized box towards me but instead it was wrapped in yellow paper and a red bow on top.
Why was my family so fascinated with bright colours?
I also unwrapped this present carefully and opened it to see a wooden box. It was intricately carved with animals, most big cats but some were wolves or bears. The whole box was covered in them. It looked hand made, and it was amazing.
"What is it?" I asked as I looked up briefly to Reece only to look down at the box again.
I opened it to find pictures stacked all nearly, all in time order, in the box.
Many, many pictures of me and Reece growing up and then adding Jessie into the pictures when she was born and then getting older with us. There was also some with our mum, but most was her taking them, it had the times of when we used to prank each other, me and Reece, the outcomes to them like when my hair was turned bright red or when I put itching cream in Reece's pants, then when we used to go out to different places like the mountains a few towns over from our last house or days out into town, odd days but good memories.
