~Chapter Twenty-Eight~

Start from the beginning

Closing night rolled around way quicker then I wanted. It was the last show. Brian was vlogging, per usual. He went up to Alex in the corner, who had a humidifier. "Hey Alex," he said.

"Oh, hi," she responded.

"What are you doing?" Brian asked, in reference to the humidifier.

"This actually does nothing for your voice," Alex explained. She caught Brian's puzzled expression. "It just shows people that you are very dedicated to your craft." I saw Brian nod, wish her luck, and walk to Meredith, his next victim.

"What's your favorite part of Twisted ending?" Brian asked Meredith. She was in full costume due to the last run-through.

"Well, um, I don't have to work out my abs anymore," Meredith responded. She showed off her work to Brian, who felt them.

"Good work," he said. After packing away the camera, he raised his voice. "Out in five. Then we change, soundcheck, and lunch."

Everyone filed out of the dressing room as Rachael, Brian, and I hung back. "I'm not ready to leave," I admitted out of the blue. I had to get it out.

"I know that LA is great, but I agree, it's gonna suck not hanging with me every day," Brian said. I giggled.

"I'll text at least weekly," Rachael promised me.

"Ok, but I wanted to say that you'll always be welcome with us. Our home is always open and we'll probably have you back for shows and maybe if we do anymore concerts. Instead of being our stage manager, you can make sure we don't get killed or forget stuff," Brian said, wrapping me in a hug.

"Thanks," I mumbled. Meredith came in.

"I'm not ready for this to end," she said as we removed her headpiece.

"How many bobby pins went missing?" I asked her, tying her rope.

"Tons. This is my second container," she said as I sent her off. It was about a minute before Jaime entered. She was flushed.

"Are you okay?" I asked her, unpinning her scarves.

"Yeah. I'm just tired. Dylan and I stayed up late watching Netflix™. It was a bad idea," she said, leaving as I handed her the book.

"I'm going on," Rachael whispered as she went on.

The run-through ended and everyone was out of costume for soundcheck in record time. Brian and I handed out the mikes. "Ok. Dylan," Brian said.

"A humble yet cozy abode! Where we can write our own happy ending. Tonight!" Dylan sang.

"That's good. Mere," Brian nodded.

"Once upon a time, in a faraway land," Meredith said.

"Good. Lo," I said.

"But sir, I'm starving!" Lauren exclaimed, grinning. Brian nodded to her, and then to Jaime.

"Spinning silk in your private sweatshop, mistress," Jaime said. I nodded.

"Rach," Brian said.

"Oh, you. Aren't you busy? Ruining my life," Rachael said pointedly.

"Jeff," I said, nodding at Rachael.

"Is it working? I don't want this to end," Jeff said.

"It is working and no one wants it to end," Brian said. We all nodded.

"How will I adjust to life after this?" Robert groaned over-dramatically. I elbowed him jokingly.

"Your mike is working," I said. I raised my voice. "Jim!"

"I am debating if I should retire from acting after this," he said.

"Jim, you're still young," I said.

"Denise!" Brian called above everyone.

"The Twisted train is leaving the station. Please keep your entire body inside the vehicle the entire time. There are four exits in each compartment, marked with exit signs and lights," she said like a flight attendant.

"Alex," I said.

"Okay. I'm hungry. Am I the last one?" Alex asked. I consulted my clipboard.

"Nope. Joe," I said.

"Yeah I'm also hungry," he responded.

"Okay, we're done. Break for lunch," I announced.

"Yeah what mini Criss just said. Be back in half an hour," Brian said. He was vlogging and talked to Lauren.

"Well, tonight is closing night. I'm not ready, but I have some bits that I'm going to add and remove to see how everyone does. Just to keep them on their toes and make sure that they'll remember me," Lauren said.

"Um, can I see one of them?" Brian asked.

"Well, they require the monkey and I want them to be a surprise, so no," Lauren said.

We were all backstage after a speedy dinner. This was the last show and every single person required was in the dressing room. "Guys, this is it. We have rocked this show and this night might even beat opening night if Lo's bits don't screw it up. Break a leg," Brian said. Everyone repeated 'break a leg.'

"Alright, alright, team huddle. Let's do Twisted on three, come on, come on," Brian said. We all released on three with a very tired, yet enthusiastic 'Twisted!'

Tonight was very interesting. Jim had deemed one of his lines too boring to end, so he cut it off. He was supposed to say "that'll teach you to sneer at a nobleman." Instead, the ending of that line was too boring, so Jim said "That'll teach you!" He was also doing multiple vlogs that night. Lauren's extra lines were humorous, but near the end she did, in fact, mess it up. In the last scene, she was waiting backstage, but leaned on the wall and turned on all the lights. They were able to get fixed quickly, but everyone still noticed. It took everyone's willpower to not burst out into laughter. When everyone filed backstage, Brian had his camera out. "Where is she? Where is she?" He shouted.

Robert pointed at Lauren's head. "That was one of my bits," Lauren replied as Brian turned off his camera.

"Well, besides someone's lights trouble, this show was great," Brian said. Meredith whispered something in his ear. I noticed his expression soften, then harden slightly before laughing.

*ddeeeeeep breath* DARREN WON A GOLDEN GLOBE!!! I am extending all of my congratulations to him (I heard someone say he won two, but I went on Google and found one... please let me know if it's two and which ones). Well, I'm about a week back into school on Friday. I have been listening to TGWDLM on repeat because I simply adore the music. Not Your Seed, Let it Out, Cup of Roasted Coffee, and Inevitable are probably my favorites, but not necessarily in that order. In other news, I drove by myself this weekend. I went to and from a friend's birthday party, and a guy at Walmart made me change parking spaces because I wasn't a grocery pickup, but my mom was a pickup, just not for groceries. Well, I don't know if you've watched the video I attached above, but that's where most of this chapter is from. Have an awesome time 'till I see you!!!
