Ryder was fuming.
His eyes were brooding with anger, the light irises widened to a whole. I could see him mumbling profanities under his breath at a rapid pace, no doubt, plaguing my existence completely. His usual chocolate, tousled hair was in a frenzy, sticking in different directions in a chaotic manner. Best of all, given the advantage of surprise, he appears barely clothed, seeing as he immediately rushed to seize me in his embrace once more.
A chuckle is released from my lips as I take in his messy state only causing him to push his legs further to reach me. I have to give the boy props, he was fast, but I was faster.
After overhearing that fishy phone call between him and the mystery person, I was on the edge.
While it could have meant absolutely anything, sometimes it’s better to play things safe rather than risk it and put myself in further danger. And, despite that Ryder has inflicted no such harm on me to this point that could always change instantaneously. At this pace, I would say sooner rather than later.
There was no doubt in my mind that he wanted nothing more than to grasp my neck in a chokehold until my insides spilled out onto the floor. After all, I had finally managed to grow a pair and call the police on him.
Unfortunately for me, he had caught me with the hand in the cookie jar. Clearly, he had been wary of me and suspected such a deliberate thing on my behalf. I’m not sure whether it was the alert looks I sent him or the fact that I had threatened him minutes before. The point is, I was only able to greet the officer before he abruptly snatched the phone from me and cut the line.
The growl that escaped his lips soon after being a defining moment for me. In that moment, I knew he had absolutely had it with me. On an impulse, I raised my knee to his family jewels and kneed him repeatedly to which he reacted by falling to the floor, opening a door for my escape.
I will say, though, I had no idea where I was headed. That was a clear advantage for him, knowing that I would eventually have to stop for a breath of air or seek help. The ache in my legs and the constant clenching of my stomach made it obvious I would lose the battle soon.
I look back only to notice Ryder is no longer in my sight. I stop in my steps and take the chance to gain my breath once more. A splutter of coughs escapes my chest as I grasp my abdomen tightly, trying to refrain it from hurting further.
A pair of arms wrap themselves around me, raising my panic to new levels. I begin to shake in agitation, hoping to break free from said person.
A familiar voice brings my act to an end. “Relax, it’s just me.”
I relax visibly as my eyes laid sight on Jason.
