It was late afternoon and I was laid flat on the floor with my eyes closed. I was enjoying the moment of silence, when suddenly someone yelled in my ear.
"GET UP! AND DO YOUR CHORES NOW!"
I immediately opened my eyes. And as soon as I saw the person, I jumped up, my face filled with horror. It was my step mom and she looks pissed.
"ARE YOU DEAF?! GO DO YOUR CHORES NOW!" she yelled again.
I obeyed and did my chores right away... I washed the dishes, cleaned the kitchen, did the laundry and cooked dinner just in time before my step mom steps out of her room.
Yes. I live with my step mom, Laura, who is literally a monster, she looks like one and even acts like one. Both of my parents passed away. My Mom died when I was 5 due to a tragic car accident. When I was 8, my dad was tough enough to date again. He eventually met her and married her right away because of me. He thought of the idea of me growing up and not having a mother would not make my childhood any happier. What he did not know was that she was a user and she treated me like a slave. I haven't told my Father about this because I thought that he really loved her and I didn't want to make him feel bad. When I was 13, I got a phone call from school saying that my Dad has passed away because of Aneurysm. My teacher and classmates pitied me and I simply hated it. I hate looking weak in front of all people. They felt bad for me because I lost both my parents. And now, here I am stuck with my her, feeling like hell. I stopped going to school because my she said that I didn't need the money for education when I could be like her; selling her body to people. I couldn't resist the disgust on my face. Is this how my Dad found her? On the streets? And the fact that my Dad paid her for sex. I hated it. I hate the thought of it. I spend most of my time in the music store downtown where I work, listening and selling music all day. Work has been my "get out of jail" pass and I'm very thankful for it.
When I was little, my dad used to own that store and we would listen to all kinds of music everyday and meet different kinds of artists and music lovers. My dad was the one who introduced me to the world of music. He taught me how to sing, play guitar and piano. I remember telling my dad that my dream is to be a singer, so he taught me everything I needed to know. When my dad died, my selfish step mom sold the music store so she could spend all the money on herself. But that never stopped me from chasing my dream. I started to post videos of myself doing covers on YouTube and surprisingly gained a hundred fans, then a thousand and now, a million. I couldn't believe it! And so, I continued to post videos on YouTube. As much as I love filming and singing, I love inspiring my viewers to pursue their dreams.
Having dinner with Laura has always been the same- quiet and boring. As I finished my food, I had to wait for Laura to finish, get up and walk straight to her bedroom. I gathered all the plates and dunked them in the sink and left it there. Not even bothered that I'm going to get yelled at again tomorrow morning. I walked back to my room and flopped down onto my bed, feeling all my muscles go sore. I checked my Twitter, Instagram and Facebook on my phone. And before I knew it, I was sound asleep.
I suddenly woke up at around midnight and I felt like I had to film a new video for my viewers. I, then decided to do a cover of Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved." I set up my camera, hit record, grabbed my guitar and sat down on my bed in an Indian position.
"Hey Guys! It's Dani and I'm back with a new video! I decided to do a cover of Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved" Hope you guys love it!," I say.
I started strumming the first chord then sang...
"Beauty queen of only eighteen
She had some trouble with herself
He was always there to help her
