The Lost Thing

  • Dedicated to Shaun Tan - a creative genius (in my opinion anyway)

Carapaced.

                        Waiting.

Tenderly tentacling - friend?         Friend?

I am lost.

I don't belong.

I long

but I fear         too.

I have no         delinquencies.

My tender flesh is encased

not gladiatorial.

These monstrous rust claws         please

excuse them.

See

I have tendriled bells

small tinkling

apologies.

Will you help... will you...

help

me?

I recognise

your fountaining hair

you sorrow

too.

Might we not

pool?

You accumulate

castaway things

I am one         too.

Would you collect me?

Lead me to Utopia

where creativity is no         sin

and strange contusive skin is deemed

beautiful.

You could come         too.

We could be

lost

and found         together.

NOTE: Assisted in a class today where I saw this beautiful short animation by Shaun Tan. Incredibly moving.
