Chapter 4: Déjà Vu

~~~~~~~~~~~{Noel's Point of View}~~~~~~~~~~~
I remembered the sound of machines wailing, beeping like a million trucks reversing and running over my head. My brain felt like it was going to explode. I couldn't feel anything below my neck. I couldn't open my eyes, my eyelids were too heavy, like someone has cemented them shut.
I did the only thing that I could think of.
I screamed.
The last thing I remembered was Tony disappearing into the portal, never to be seen again and someone calling my name over and over. Jolts of electricity ran through me and I was vaguely aware of my body convulsing, although, I couldn't really feel it at all.
I screamed again, but this time, I managed to form a word.
"TONY!"
"Dr. Jones, Nurse!" Banner yelled from the door, placing the viles of blood on a table, making sure they didn't break. "She's coding!"
Nurses and doctors rushed into Noel's room as Bruce notified Director Fury.
"What do we do, Doctor?" A nurse asked,
"We're going straight to the difribulator." Bruce interrupted whatever Dr. Jones was about to say and the nurse got everything set up.
"Clear!"
Noel's body started to convulse in waves of spasms as she screamed out a name; "TONY!"
Bruce stared wide eyed at the nurse across from him.
"Holy shit. She's conscious." Bruce breathed and got everyone to step back before calling out warily, "Noel?"
Her eyes snapped open.
~~~~~~~~~~~{Noel's Point of View}~~~~~~~~~~~

At first, everything was white, like a light had been switched on directly into my eyes, but as time passed, I found myself looking at Bruce. He had an easy smile on his face as if he'd been waiting for something like this for years. He looked much older than when I'd last seen him, he had more frown lines and a little more grey streaked through his brown hair.

Stress, I thought, but then again, why would he be under that much stress?

"Noel." He breathed. "Welcome back."

I tried to speak but my throat was so sore and dry that it came out as a squeak.

He chuckled, "It's okay, sweetie. You don't have to talk. I'll get you some water, okay?"

I nodded and he left me to the nurses. They made sure I was okay and asked me if I was in any pain. I shook my head because to be honest, I felt better than I had in years. I had more energy and I felt more vibrant and happy, like my body had revived itself.

I was left alone for a few moments before Bruce returned, and I took in my surroundings. From what I could tell, I was in a hospital room, but I didn't know where exactly the room was. Was I in the hellicarrier? Or in New York? I sighed and tried to sit up but I just felt weighed down, like I wasn't used to my body weight. I frowned and sighed again as Bruce returned.

"How are you feeling?" Bruce asked, handing me the cup of water and adjusting the bed so that I was sitting up.

I downed the water in seconds and I felt myself have the ability to talk again. "I feel...weird."

"That's expected. You have been out for about six weeks."

If I hadn't swallowed the water already, I would have spat it out across the room. "What?"
