Tryna talk to a wall

The coffee was bitter and cold and my heart was thrown in for a loop.
"So after two months of pretending that I don't exist, you've tracked me down to say sorry?" This time I did laugh.

"No, I tracked you down and brought you to the only cafe that's opened this late to ask you, if you'll marry me." Stephen responded with a straight face.

"You're joking right?" I raised an eyebrow, "You made it clear that we can't have any romantic relations with each other."

"I know that I messed up. And I know that I deeply hurt you. I'm so incredibly sorry about that." Strange bit his lip before continuing, "I never want to hurt you again."

"Then you should've left me alone." I bit back standing up, "Do you ever think about anyone besides yourself? The world doesn't revolve around you! You hurt me, ripped  my heart out after I begged you to stay." I clenched my jaw as tears threatened to fall.

"I can't trust you." I whispered, "I'm done." I looked at him wanting to say more but left with my heart tearing to pieces. The cold bit at me, and my tears were frozen against my cheeks.

"Peter! Wait!" Stephen shouted after me. His hand shot out and wrapped around my wrist. I jerked away and turned to him.
"What?" I seethed.

"I love you. And those months without you were horrible. And I know I treated you so bad when you deserve so much more. So much more than me. But Peter, I'm a selfish man. And I want you to myself, I miss you." Stephen choked out.

"Oh wow, you're crying. Didn't know you could do that." I responded.

Strange smiled and stuffed his hands into his pockets, "I know that even if you were to get back into a relationship it wouldn't be the same. And I know it'll take a long time to earn your trust back. I just want you to know that I got my head out of my ass, and I realized what was really important to me."

I met his eyes and smiled.
