Paw Prints in the Snow

Later that day Ice was in the kitchen baking cookies and wrapping presents, while listening to Christmas tunes on the radio. She was just putting the cookies on a cooling rack and getting ready to put up some more Christmas decorations when Myndy waddled into the kitchen.

She had her little Christmas jumper on and a semi matching collar with a small angel halo on a wire clipped onto it. Her winter themed lead was folded in her mouth while she stared at Ice benignly but begging with her big blue eyes.

"Myndy, you know you're not supposed to go for walks until after the puppies arrive" Ice stated in a motherly tone.

Myndy whined and pawed the ground longingly.

Ice sighed, her heart melting a little. "Fine just a short walk!"

Myndy's ears perked up and she yapped excitedly. She spun once in a circle, chasing her stubby tail.

Ice discarded her oven gloves on the counter and walked over to Myndy. She took the lead from her mouth then walked into the hall, the dog following her, and picked up her jacket, putting it on.

When they reached the door Ice clipped the lead onto Myndy's collar.

She opened the door and the two companions stepped out into the chilly air. After shutting the door behind them they walked out the gate and into the street.

They made their way down the path until they came to the edge of a forest. They continued on the path through the forest for awhile but veered off to a little separate path of flattened grass through the thick of the trees after a little bit. They stayed on this path until they came to an opening in the trees.

On the other side of the opening was a beautiful forest clearing. It was dusted with a reasonably thick layer of snow, the weak leaf dappled sunlight reflecting off it. There was a very small loch which was partially frozen over and a wooden bench next to it.

Ice bent down and unclipped Myndy's lead, letting her run free. The corgi picked up a stick in her mouth and brought it back to Ice. The girl took it from her then threw it across the clearing and Myndy chased after it reasonably fast considering her current state. The 2 continued to play fetch like this for a little while.

After their game the pair sat down comfortably on the bench next to each other and watched the sun set. As they sat Ice had one hand resting on Myndy's back and the other traced her fingers over two carved sets of initials inside a little love heart in the surface of the wood; IPSF x VWCR. She was lost in thought.

Eventually Myndy hopped down carefully from the bench and tottered over to a particularly thick patch of snow. She then proceeded to roll about in the snow.

Ice let out an exasperated sigh then burst out laughing.

"Myndy! You're gonna get your jumper soaking wet!"

She then clipped the mischievous pooch back up to her lead and they left the paw print covered clearing leaving fresh ones in their wake.

When the companions arrived back home Ice got back to work preparing for Christmas and Myndy curled up in her cosy basket, ready for another snooze.
