For the past three years, Katherine Berger or Kate has never come to forget what happened on that night. A calm night that took her mother's breath away for good.
Kate had always known that her mother's heart was weak and that she didn't have a long time, but was never prepared for her dearly mother's death. Monica Joseph who left her all alone in the world, she never knew her father, John Berger a Frenchman who took her mother's heart away and left with it forever.
She never knew any relatives too except for her aunt Lisa who lived miles away in a city known as Dar es salaam, Eastern Tanzania. It's not like her mother never had other relatives no, she had but all of them had abandoned her after she got pregnant with a white or mzungu as they referred them in Swahili, to cap it all out of wedlock in other words a fling.
It was an embarrassment to the family, shame, but Monica stood firm and decided to keep her baby, although the father left after his short vacation in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area(NCA) leaving her pregnant.
Kate smiled at the memory, her mother was so sure that John Berger would accept his own flesh and blood and sent Kate to Cape Town, South Africa where John lived only to find that, the old man had left years ago. This left the 20 year old Kate to remain in Capetown and try to sort out her life.
Kate walked along the shore, the breeze blew her long brown hair which she inherited from her dad, shame he didn't even know of her existence.
