The moment my feet hit the ground I have to steady myself so that I don't fall into the sand. One look around and I confirm my suspicions. I am standing on a beach.
"Welcome my dear Katherine." Kye smiles from a table set for two.
The table sits directly in the center of the beach, no walls blocking my view of the water and the moon that shines down onto the white sand. Around the table are a few tiki torches that burn with an eerie blue glow, and a few potted plants that bloom with ice blue roses.
"Wow, this is really something." Quinn says looking up at the starlit sky.
The soft music of a violin floats to my ears, and off to the side I can see the puppet waiter playing in a small gazebo. The sight is by far the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my entire life. And judging by Kye's wide elated grin, he know's it as well.
"What is all this?" I ask.
"This is the set up for our first date." He smiles.
In an instant he is beside me, taking my arm and gently guiding me forward. At the seat in front of his, he pulls it out and motions for me to take a seat. Seeing no other choice I sit down slowly. When I look up he is sitting in his seat again.
"You don't really expect us to sit here and watch you two go on your date do you?" Quinn asks.
Kye frowns, frustrated. "Of course not," He waves his hand and the door behind them flies open, "You are free to wait in the hall for us to finish. Be warned though, if you stay you will not be treated as one of my guests."
He gives the others a moment to let it sink in before turning back to me.
"Maybe you could convince your friends that my intention are pure." He gives me a sad smile and cocks his head to the side like a begging puppy.
I sigh and turn to the others.
"It's alright you guys, I can handle this on my own." I tell them.
They give each other a look before nodding and stepping back out the door. When I turn back to Kye I see a small smile pulling at his lips.
"You're starting to trust me more." He smiles.
"I don't exactly have any other choice," I tell him, "Why don't you tell me exactly why we are doing this?"
"As I said before, this is a date. You said you wanted to fall in love on your own, so I'm giving you a chance to get to know me. It will hopefully make the transition easier for you. This, a dinner on the beach, I remember you always dreamed about."
I stop and stare at him. Even if he had been watching me my entire life, how is it possible he knows about that? I never told anyone about that, let alone said it out loud.
"How did you know that?" I whisper.
His smile grows. "Your diary holds the information to almost every secret I know about you."
"My diary is locked, and it is impossible to get into it without the key." I tell him, because I know for sure that the key is around a necklace hanging on my Teddy bear at home. It looks like any other necklace, and it hasn't been touched in years.
I think about it for a moment. He had sent puppet after puppet after me when I was younger. Maybe it wasn't that unbelievable that one of them sneaked in one night while I was asleep and took the diary and the necklace back. He could have easily read the book and had it back in place before I woke in the morning. I never would have known...
