That was fun!
I came to Wattpad six months ago looking for an avenue to flex my creativity and I've found a lot more than I bargained for. From the early days of a few appreciative comments from people I'd never met (thank you very much early readers!) through the thrilling month of going from longlist to shortlist to finally winning a Watty 2018, and now finishing the first series of A Very English Necromancer. It's really been amazing and my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read and enjoy it.
As the story developed and changed from feedback, I realised the difference in writing on Wattpad to just sitting in front of Word on my computer. Other people's thoughts really helped shape the book - not the least the cover illustration done by Louise Rabey who interpreted what I said in such a way that the skeleton, Edgar, ended up with a D20 in his hand on the cover. Yes; the art came first and shaped the story that followed.
I forget who commented what (for which I'm sorry), but someone said they were sad that I hadn't bothered to write the scene where Huu first raises his Mum and so that was added as a flashback. There was the person quite recently who begged for more such that I felt compelled to write two chapters where I had only planned one (leading to 'Sunset Preparation') and all the people that commented on the strange and detailed descriptions of urination so that ended up being a thread throughout!
Quite simply, none of those things would have become part of the narrative had I just written this alone in the dark.
Perhaps the greatest change, however, was how I viewed the structure of the book. I found myself likening the serial nature of it to a TV series, with an episode a week and coming to a close at the end of the year (or 'season'). Consequently, I decided to go with a second season of the story (coming next year after a short break) - so for those of you who have become 'fans' (I hesitate to use the word as it seems exceptionally egotistical!), I promise there will be more in 2019.
As a writer (yes, I write full-time and it pays the bills, though too much of it is very boring website copy), your feedback and support means so much to me. For anyone wanting more from me, take a poke around the internet and see what you find. My pre-married name of 'Crispin Bateman' will show you articles on Magic the Gathering, and get you to a fun pair of self-published works on Amazon (something else that will be getting more attention in the next year!). I'd love it if you bought my book and enjoyed more of my work. Drop me a message or a comment and let me know what you think. For those too lazy to search:

I really hope you have all enjoyed the story of Huu. For anyone who cannot wait until season two, I thought I'd write a fun Christmas special - it'll be published here on Wattpad on Christmas Day 2018, so come and read it in between opening presents and gorging yourself on lovely food!
And thank you all, once more, for a really enjoyable 2018 on Wattpad!
