"Scarlett, are you sure this is a good idea?" I whisper-shout to the girl who is currently scurrying like a damn mouse across the abandoned candy factory.
"Probably not," she shrugs and my concern only grows. "but it'll totally be worth it." She says throwing me a sly smirk over her shoulder as she turns the rusty lever counterclockwise on the little trap door located on the ceiling. She struggles slightly but manages to turn it fully, revealing the metal latter that pokes through the small hole. Scarlett jumps repeatedly in an attempt to reach the edge of the latter. She lets out a frustrated sigh and turns on her heel to face me and says, "A little help would be nice here 'Rory." I let out a short breathe, still uncertain about our whole plan that we are carrying out. I walk over and lift her onto my back regardless of my doubts. She is easily able to reach the latter and extends it out down far enough for us to be able to climb up it. The space is small and dark, and it reminds me of something out of the sewers- only less dirty.
The higher we climb the clearer the faint sound of music starts to come through. We reach the top and push the square door open and it lands with a thud on the ground outside. Slivers of neon lights flood into the small tunnel and the music is now blaring loudly and filling the air. Scarlett helps me climb out of the tunnel and atop of the rooftop. We go near the edge that is guarded by a short fence. The factory sits at the top of our city and gives the perfect view of the whole city.
There are a few other groups of people littering the rooftop; Scarlett and I head over to the group sitting to the far left who have blankets and snacks all set out. Scar greets some people and I stand back quietly, feeling a tad awkward until a tap is felt on my shoulder and I spin on my heel. I am greeted by a familiar face which I am extremely thankful for.
"Been a while since I've seen you, stranger." He teases which earns him a light shove and an eye roll.
"It's only been like three weeks, you missed me that much already? How sweet!" I tease back lightly and smirk. It was his turn to roll his eyes before pulling me into a tight hug. The nostalgic smell of mint, strawberries, and cigarettes hit me and I smile into his chest, hugging him back.
He pulls back, "A simple 'I missed you too' would've sufficed, Doll." He comments sarcastically.
"Ahh, you know I did babe," I give in causing him to smile triumphantly. "Now pass me a drink, would ya?"
"Jeez, have you always been this bossy? And lacking of any manners?" He smirks.
"Pleaseeee, Elliot?" I beg jokingly.
He throws his hands up in defeat and reaches into the cooler, grabbing a bottle of beer and handing it to me. I take it into my hand but pout silently. He laughs knowingly and reaches into his hoodie pocket and pulls out a small bottle filled with clear alcohol.
So he really does know me.
"The beer was obviously a chaser love, don't you think I know you better than that?" I smile at him and thank him quietly before gulping down the liquid. The alcohol burns a tad on it's way down, but in a good way.
I feel warmth spread throughout my chest which I'm grateful for since its a bit chilly out and I am in a t-shirt and ripped jeans.
"That's why you're my favourite," I say while laughing which he soon joins in on. Our laughing is cut short though by a someone scoffing, drawing both of our attentions to the source.
"Tsk, Tsk, Tsk, dearest Aurora," Scarlett voices shaking her he's gently. "Lying again, are we now? How disappointing, what would your parents say? We all know that I'm your favourite person here." The cockiness radiates off Scar as she finishes her statement which is laced with humour.
