Leah, Aimee, and I go and wait by the locker room like we always do. We go and take the cupcakes from the fridge in the teacher’s lounge and put them in the truck for the party then go back and wait till the boys come back from their meeting freshly showered and out of a stinky uniform. When they walk out tonight, all three of them have a big smile on their faces.
Easton gets over to us first and asks, “Who wants to go party?”
We look at each other and I am the first to say, “Why not! We, well you guys, just beat our rivals! Let’s go have some fun!”
Leah and Aimee both look at me. I knew that I was the more outgoing and fun of the three, but come on I didn’t know it would be this hard to convince them. “Guys, we are young! Were juniors! Let’s go party it up before we get too old!”
“Okay, it might be fun,” says Leah.
“Fine,” said Aimee.
"Hell yeah!" shouts Easton.
Will and Leah come with Easton and I in Easton’s Ford F-150 and Hayden and Aimee go in Aimee’s car.
When we are in the car, I say, “Good game boys!” they both smile and say thanks.
“I need to tell you something Jace,” said Leah, so quietly that I had a hard time hearing her even though she was sitting right next to me. I knew it had to be something bad.
“What? What’s up,” I ask her.
“Well, do you remember when you were upset and you told Aimee that maybe she should replace you as editor?”
“You did what?” says Easton from the front.
“Well, I may have said that yes. I was upset and thought at the moment maybe they were right, but I got better. I didn’t mean it.”
“No, I know you didn’t, because I know you Jace and that’s what I tried telling her, but she-“
“It’s okay. I know you did. Thank you.”
“No problem, but she said that she was going to try to get the position. What are you going to do?”
“I don’t know. We’ll just wait and see what happens.”
“You’re going to do what?” said both Easton and Will.
“Will, watch the cupcakes! What do you expect me to do, go up and tell her off?”
“No, but we all know Aimee and what she can do to get what she wants and she doesn’t stop till she gets it.” Says Will.
We were silent the rest of the way, until Easton broke the slience, “Fine, that might be the best idea right now is to wait. But, Jace, stay away from Aimee tonight okay.”
“Because we all know your ticked off and we don’t want to make things worse.”
“Good idea,” says Will and Leah.
“Fine.” I say.
When we arrive at the party there are already a lot of people there. Hayden and Aimee pull up behind us.
“Let’s go inside,” says Easton as he grabs my hand and pulls me inside.
I go and put the cupcakes down in the kitchen then go and find where my friends went. Easton finds me first with a beer in his hand. “Here,” he says as he hands me the bottle.
“You shouldn’t be drinking, you have to drive.” I say.
“I know, I only had a sip. And you shouldn’t either. But after the hell of a day you went through. I would be.” He says, he knows I don’t like to drink, but every once and a while I do, and he is right, after a hell of a day today, I am glad I have a bottle in my hand. I take another drink.
Leah and Will come over. They look like they have been dancing because they are out of breath and sweaty.
“Having fun, are you Leah,” I ask.
“Oh my Jace! I feel free! More free than I normally do at parties! I free wild!” she says back and takes the bottle from my hand and takes a drink. “That’s gross! Okay, maybe not that wild,” and hands the bottle back to me. I laugh and give her a smile. Then Will pulls her back in for more dancing.
“You want to dance?” asks Easton.
I take another drink and answer, “Yeah, I think I do.” He pulls my hand and guides me into the crowd.
I am hot, and drunk even though I only had two beers. We finally stop dancing and was now sitting down outside in the nice fresh air. Then it went downhill. After we went back inside, we were standing around again, we were all too tired to dance anymore, Aimee came over to us. I started to get up but she grabbed my arm and turned me around to face her.
“Hey Jacelyn.” She said.
“Have you been avoiding me?”
“So what if I am?”
“You know don’t you. She told you.” She said and pointed at Leah. “I knew she couldn’t be trusted! Well its true! I am after your position. That you technically said that I should replace you in!”
"You don't want to do this here."
“OH YEAH! You think that you are okay! That everyone loves you being editor! They all think you suck! You do SUCK! You’re a failure and everyone would rather have me instead of you!” She yelled in my face. It stunk of beer.
“Hey! Calm do-“
Will, Leah, and Easton were trying to say, but I cut them off. “Its fine.”
“Oh yeah, you think that don’t you. You wish that they thought that. Everything has to be about you! Aimee, Aimee, Aimee! Isn't that right! You know that your lucky i forgave you two years ago? Do you remember that?" I yell back at her.
That seemed to hit a nerve. "You know what. Your right. I don't want to do this here. I will just have to wait."
I look around and everyone is staring at us.
"Your drunk Aimee. Just go home and go to bed."
"No! There is something that I want to say."
The room went silent.
"Alright we're listening."
"I am better than you. I always have been. Even more now. I would make a better editor than you. I know that. Hell the whole freakin school knows that! Except you! Well, I am going to take that spot. You don't deserve it!" then she slaps me. It didn't hurt all that much. What hurt was the shock the betrayal, it is exactly how I felt two years ago.
I shoved her back. I wasn't going to let her get away with that. Not again. Especially with everyone watching.
She shoved me back. I shoved her. Basically this was just a shoving fight. But then she came at me head first. I fell backward onto the ground, my eyesite went blury. I have a short temper as is. But now I am pissed off. She was still on top of me pulling my hair. Really, a girl fight? I tried pushing her up. But nothing. Finally I pulled my knees up and hit her in the gut she groaned but didn't let go. I took a breath and rolled her over so now I was on top of her. And I put my hands on hers and pinned her down. I felt someone's hand on me. Pulling me up. I told her,"I'm tired of fighting." before I was pulled up completely. I saw Hayden dash toward Aimee. I looked up and realized it was Easton who pulled me up. He had me and was taking me out of the course when I heard one last thing. "You better watch out cupcake girl!"
