It's Him, but it's not

Jaz's pov

School was today. I couldnt seem to remember what it was like to be a normal human after such an odd night spent with an annoying faery.

Getting out of my car, I saw Zaid from accross the parking lot. I knew he wanted to talk and he always gets his way so I though I might as well get it over and done with.

I put on my sheild of courage and trudged over to the sandy spot he was standing on.

"Yeh, hi..."

Zaid's pov

Well this was akward. She knew I wanted to scold her like a child. I wouldnt be able to stand it if she ever got hurt. But I couldn't go about it that way because she just wouldn't respond well.

"*#%{$#*!" Her eyebrows rose. Okay, I swore. I was frustrated. It was so hard dealing with her. I cared too much to get my job done properly.

"Zaid," she asked tentatively. My head shot up, eyes wide. Jaz was never hesitant.

"Um, well... Im sorry okay? I know going off with Jem was dangerous but I've known him for ages! I know he would never hurt me."

I nodded. That was totally understandable.

"Yeh I get it, Jaz. But can I just ask something," she nodded. "Why are you so interested in him now? After he's been so distant?" She looked at the floor. I wasn't going to get a response anytime soon.

"Alright. Just promise me something?" She nodded hesitantly, "Even if your mad at me, just tell me where you're going. Please?"

"Yeh okay." She looked utterly defeated.

If I didn't get out of there now I was going to hug her... Wait, what? I could hug her if I wanted! So I did. And it was amazing. Since I was being all out there already, I thought I might as well go all the way.

"And Jaz? Would you do the honour of going with me to the dinner dance?" She let out a shakey but amused laugh.

"You're so formal." She said quietly. I urged her on with my eyes. "You know we're not even supposed to have dates, right?" I nodded.

"Sure. Okay" She hugged me again, then kissed me on the cheek and trotted off to her first class.

My cheek was still tingling from the casual connection of our skin... Wow... this was bad.

I heard someone coming up behind me. I turned slightly so I could see them through the corner of my eye.

"Hey, Zaid" came that annoying voice, it could only belong to one person--Jem. I hated the way she chose to spend last night with him, and not me.

Jaz had texted me about the Casmire incident so I knew it wasn't exactly 'romantic' or anything. But still. I was jealous. She was my responsibility, not his.

"I have to get to class" I said. Turning swiftly, i left him in the car park, dejected as it was supposed to be. I looked back though, to see an evil but smug smile on his face. I blinked, and it was gone, replaced by a confused expression. It must have been my imagination or something.

I made a mental note to talk to Jaz about the 'Jem ' subject a little more once we were on our way home. That way, she would have nowhere to run, she would be cornered. I was pretty sure she wouldnt jump out of a moving vehcle. Then again, she was pretty unpredictable...
