Sunday, August 12th
On the coffee table four feet away from me, my phone rang, and I contemplated just letting it go to voicemail. I had only been at work for a week and already I was exhausted. Though the projects I got to work on were exciting, they demanded a lot of focus and concentration, which took it's toll. With a grunt, I hoisted myself up on my bed and reach over to grab the phone.
"You better have a really good reason for calling me on my day off."
"Well hello to you too sunshine!" Louis chirped. I grumbled in response and he laughed. The boys had left earlier that day to do an interview or something of the like, since Liam, Niall, and Zayn were returning from their respective holidays and the band would be reunited once again. "I was just calling to make sure you were alive! And to tell you that we're picking you up for dinner at 8."
"Dinner? What dinner? We don't have a dinner. Do we have a dinner?" I asked, confused. I didn't remember being told anything about tonight's plans.
"Of course we do! The boys are back! It's time for you to meet the band!" He said, all too enthusiastically.
I groaned, standing up and stretching out my legs. "Can't you just tell them I'm anorexic or something?"
"Jenny! We're not going to let you avoid them for the entire month! Don't you want to meet them?"
I sighed. I did want to meet them, I mean who wouldn't? But, what if they didn't like me? I said as much to Louis and he laughed.
"Wow! Who are you and what have you done with Jenny Lye! You weren't scared to meet Harry or me, why are you getting so timid now?"
"I dunno," I said in defeat. "I guess I'm just trying to find something that would make this less perfect. Something to reassure me that this isn't just a dream."
"Hmm," he replied. "What if I reminded you that you have to work tomorrow?"
"Hey! I like my job, okay?" I snapped at the phone. Louis laughed in response.
"Oh yeah? 'Cause I distinctly remember you mumbling something about cruel and unusual punishment, and 'who would subject themselves to that', when you came home last night. Care to explain your love for your job in more detail?" Louis was full-on laughing now. I rolled my eyes in annoyance and walked over to the fridge to find something to eat. Sadly all that was left was an old bag of baby carrots and some leftover pad thai I had made on Tuesday. Seeing as it was now Sunday, I quickly threw that idea in the rubbish bin. Sighing, I grabbed a sad-looking carrot as Louis regained his composure.
"Are you done?" I asked, not waiting for a reply. "I was just tired okay? I had to go to three magazine events and organize a powerpoint for Sabrina's meeting. And then she had me field all her calls while she went on a shoot. I swear that lady gets more calls than you get fanmail!"
"Yeah, I'm still not really feeling the love. But that's besides the point. We're having dinner tonight, and you're coming!" He ordered, sounding more like Harry then himself. But honestly, those two blended together so much it was hard to see where one stopped and the other started! I walked over and sat back on the bed, looking out the window to the park across the street, where a family was playing football in the grass.
"Fine. But do we have to go out? Can't we have dinner somewhere less... intimidating... like here!"
"Jenny, we are not getting takeout on the band's first night back together!" he snapped, obviously getting impatient.
"No no no no no! That's not what I meant! I meant like cook dinner here. Me and Harry can make something."
Louis sighed in relief on the other end of the phone and I distinctly heard a male voice yell, "Lou, if you don't get back over here now the interview's going to start without you!" Obviously a worrisome Liam. It felt weird hearing his voice over the phone, knowing I was going to meet him in a matter of hours. Somehow, meeting the entire band made it real. Before I was just friends with Harry and Louis, but now I was going to be friends with One Direction... that is, if everything went well tonight.
