CHAPTER 4

When I woke up the next morning, I had no idea where I was. I was surrounded by blue blankets and my head was on a black pillow. I definitely was not in my room. I almost had a heart attack when I turned around and saw Cameron laying there, staring at me.

“Good morning.” he smiled.

“Why am I in your bed with you?” I exclaimed.

“You wanted me to protect you from the monster that would kill you in your sleep if you went home.” he explained. “Oh, and you refused to go in the guest room, Miss Lazy.”

“Oh, then I suppose it’s alright. I forgive you.” I said.

“Good.” he smirked. “Now, get ready. I’m bringing you with me to best friend’s house so you can meet him.”

“What? Now?”

“Yes, so get up.” I’ll stop by your house so you can get dressed. Then you are going to meet my friend. I’m sure you’ll like him. He’s not a jerk to girls like most guys. He has his moments sometimes but he’s usually respectful.” Cameron convinced me.

“Okay, it’s not like I have anything better to do with my day.”

Cameron got ready in a matter of ten minutes and drove us to my house. I took way more time than Cameron did to get ready. It took me forty minutes to shower, pick my outfit which consists of white shorts with a blue floral tank top and do my hair.

When I was finally ready, Cameron drove us to his friend’s house. I was extremely nervous but I don’t know why. I guess I just don’t like meeting new people. Never have, never will.

“We’re here.” Cameron said in a sing-song tone.

We made our way to the door and waited for Cameron’s friend to answer the door. As soon as he opened the door and I saw his face, my heart stopped. Cameron’s best friend is Noah Green? Why did it have to be Noah, the reason I stopped dating? Before he could notice who I was, I turned around and ran to the park nearby. The park where two years ago, I had run off to after Noah broke my heart. As I was running, I heard Cameron call after me but I simply ignored him. I was not going back to Noah’s house where I’d be forced to talk to him. I couldn’t.

How did I not recognize his house? I was there almost every day when we were dating and it was the place where I’d gotten my first heart break. I never want to see that jerk again. I wasted a year of my life on that guy and two years later, I still haven’t gotten over him and what he did to me.

I’d been sitting on the same swing as two years ago for half an hour before Cameron came and sat beside me.

“What was that about?” Cameron asked. “Why’d you run off like that?”

“Noah Green is a problem.” I answered coldly.

“You’ve met Noah before?”

“Sadly, yes.”

“When did you guys meet?”

“Do you want the whole story?”

“Of course.”

“Okay, well you know how I told you I dated a guy two years ago and he turned into a jerk?”

“Yeah.” Cameron replied confused.

“That guy was Noah. I met him during the summer when I was alone at the ice cream parlor because Alexa was in California.”

“Oh, Bridget I’m so sorry! He and I weren’t friends at the time so I didn’t know.”

“It’s okay, I don’t blame you.” I assured him. “I just haven’ talked to him or seen him since the relationship ended. It’s just weird seeing him again after all this time.”

“You’re sure you’re fine?” he asked.

“No.” I said as a tear fell down my cheek. “It still hurts.” I sobbed.

“How did the relationship end anyway? What happened between the two of you?”

“Well, we had been dating for about a year, and I thought everything about us was perfect. But one day, I went to his house and he told me he was sick.” I started.

“How sick?” Cameron questioned.

“He told me he had cancer; leukemia.”

“Wow!”

“Yeah, I know. Anyways, after he told me he was sick, he said I should stop seeing him that way it would hurt less when he died. I didn’t want to leave him, but he managed to convince me it was for the best.” I continued the story. “After about a week, I decided I’d rather be with him until he passed away than just ignore him. I didn’t care if he was sick, I loved him. So, I made my way to his house. When I knocked on the door, it wasn’t Noah who opened it. It was a girl; Claudia I think. I asked her who she was and that’s when my heart broke. She told me she was Noah’s girlfriend. Noah came to the door and told me he was never sick. He had met Claudia a couple months back and had been sneaking around with her. Oh, and apparently he never loved me. He was just using me to make Claudia jealous. I couldn’t take it anymore so I ran off and found this swing. I haven’t seen him since.” I finally finished, a few tears now falling.

“I’m so sorry Bridget. I really had no idea he was the reason you’ve stopped dating.” Cameron hugged me.

“It’s okay. As I said, I don’t blame you for this.” I assured him again.

“How about we go get my car and go back to my house?” he suggested.

“Sure, but I have a question first. Did Noah recognize me?”

“I don’t think he had the chance to.”

“Okay. I don’t want Noah to know how much he hurt me.”

“Don’t worry.”

“Thank you for being there for me. I really appreciate it.”

“No problem. I’ll always be there for you, Bridge. I won’t treat you like Noah did. I promise.”

“Good.” I smiled. “Now let’s go. This park brings back to many memories.”

We made our way to his car and before we left, Cameron told Noah we weren’t staying.
