I wake up Friday morning to the sound of birds chirping outside my window and the coffee maker.
Slipping on my fluffy slippers, I padded downstairs to the kitchen where my husband was making his cup of morning coffee.
"Morning," I yawn, slumping down in the nearest chair.
"Good morning, beautiful," he sang out and set a mug of steaming green tea in front of me.
"Mhmm" I lift my face and he plants a quick peck on my waiting lips.
"Why are you so cheery this morning?" I ask before yawning again.
"I'm showing a house to possible clients today. Big house, big price and the clients are looking good. Plus, it's Friday," he poured himself a cup of coffee and sat down in front of me.
"Ooh good for you," I smile encouragingly at him. "I can't wait 'till summer."
He laughed, "Erin! School just started!"
"Don't remind me," I stuck out my tongue before downing my cup. "Alright, I'm going to take a quick shower, want to join me?" I waggled my eyebrows at him and he laughed again.
"Mhmm I wish I could, I have to leave early today to get to the house on time. I'll see you tonight though," he came over, grabbed me around my waist and gave me a kiss to make my head spin.
"Mhmm it's a date then," I say before winking and heading off to the bathroom, "Good luck today!"
I quickly ran back up to our room and back into the bathroom.
After the shower, I stepped out and called out "Dave?"
No answer. He already left.
I shrug and make my way to the bedroom. It's 7:24, I have twenty one minutes to get dressed and get to school. I quickly slip on some jeans, a long sleeve white shirt, a coat and my boots. I add some mascara and head out the door with my bag.
After a quick drive I pull up in front of the teacher parking at Brown University. As I jump out I run into Molly Parker, fellow English teacher.
"Good morning, Erin," she calls out happily.
"Good morning, Molly," I say back, "How's it going? Is it me or are you glowing today?" I inspect her quickly. Her hair is down and she's wearing lipstick. Her hair is never down and she never wears lipstick.
Molly sticks out her left hand. There I see a gleaming diamond sitting proudly on her finger.
"Christian proposed!" she exclaims excitedly.
I'm momentarily stunned before I grab her in a tight hug and congratulate her. Christian, her boyfriend and now fiancée, have been dating for three years. They met after Dave and I had just gotten engaged. Molly and I have been friends since high school and Christian has known Dave since they were in diapers.
After a few minutes of a happy recounting of details from the previous night, we headed inside and went our separate ways to our classes. I sat down at my desk the moment the clock struck 8 and a stream of students filed in.
I bid them all a good morning before beginning where I let off in my lecture about Edgar Allan Poe.

The day flew by faster than expected and before I knew it, it was the end of my last class. The hands of the clock ticked and 6:00 came to relieve me as well as my students.

"Landon..." I began in a soft tone. "Don't! Don't. Say. Anything," he said, regaining himself, "you don't deserve any pity from me. Not after what you did to me," he yanked my hair for good measure and I shrieked softly. A few seconds rolled by in...
