After Beau and Luke caught us in the middle of our kiss, they said they had to leave, with a playful smirk glued to their faces. I told Jai about everything he had missed on and we talked some more for almost 5 hours. We talked about everything. The past, the present, the future... At that moment, I was closest to Jai then I have ever been.
Jai and I sat in silence, the only sound was the heart beat monitor's rhythmic 'beep'. Jai's hands ran through my brown locks and waves as I rested my head on his chest. I opened my mouth and let out a big yawn.
"Are you sleepy?" he asked.
"No," I said letting out another yawn.
"Yeah, that's obvious," he chuckled, his whole chest vibrating in the process which made butterflies in my stomach.
"I haven't slept in over a week," I mumbled. "These hospital chairs aren't the most comfortable chairs."
"About that, have you been here ever since I came here?" he asked. I looked up at him to find a strange emotion in his eyes- guilt. I bit my bottom lip and nodded. "Yeah. Why?"
He shook his head and looked at the ceiling. "You're perfect, Violet."
My cheeks quickly turned beetroot red as I buried them into Jai's shirt. He chuckled and I lifted my head to look at him. His hands cupped my face and he brought my head closer to his and kissed my forehead, where his lips lingered on it for a couple of seconds. He pulled out and rested his forehead against mine so that our eyes were locked on each other. He then smiled, not smirked, just smiled a genuine smile. I rested my head on his chest again, careful not to go anywhere near his hipbone or his ribs. His ankle was twisted too and the other side of his chest had small bruises. I lay on his chest, feeling it rise and fall, as a soft tear rolled down my cheek. I guess Jai felt it because he started playing with my hair and singing me a song. I quickly realised it to be Justin Bieber's 'Be Alright'.
'I'll cross the ocean,
I'll cross the sea,
Starting to forget the way you look at me now,
Over the mountains,
I'll cross the sky,
Need to see your face,
Need to look in your eyes.
Through the storm and,
Through the clouds,
Bumps in the road and upside down,
I know it's hard babe, to sleep at night,
Don't you worry'
I grinned and started drifting off to sleep. But Jai's angelic voice still could be heard.
'Cause everything's gonna be alright,
Through the sorrow,
And the fights,
Don't you worry,
Cause everything's gonna be alright,
You know that I care for you,
I'll always be there for you,
Promise I will stay right here.
I know that you want me too,
Baby we can make it through anything, cause everything's gonna be alright.'
Jai's voice drowned as sleep enveloped me. But I could swear I felt Jai whisper something in my ear.
"I love you."
I woke up in the evening with two arms wrapped securely around my waist and my head on his chest. As I recalled the memories of earlier, I smiled to myself. From Jai's breathing, he seemed to be still asleep. I took the advantage to look at him. Even inh the condition he was in, he was still wearing a beanie. I chuckled to myself, Typical beanie lover.
I looked at his forehead which held a large scar on the side of it that ran towards his cheek. His eyes were closed but his plump lips were curved into a smile.
"Take a picture, it'll last longer."
He was sitting in bed with a smirk tugging on his lips. It was so infectious that I couldn't help but smirking back.
"I didn't know sleeping beauty woke up that fast. I thought it took a long dramatic French kiss," I shot back.
His eyes widened and brightened. "Well I wouldn't mind that either," he said puckering up his lips.
"Too bad you're already awake!" I said slapping his arm. "I'll go back to sleep!" he said closing his eyes but keeping his lips puckered. A blush crept on my face.
"Aww, little Vye is blushing," he cooed opening one eye, making my cheeks turn crimson red.
A knock on the door interrupted us. We both turned our heads to the door. "Come in," I called.
Beau and Luke came skipping in the room. "Why'd you knock?" Jai asked them.
"We didn't want to interrupt another moment," Beau said with a smirk while using air quotations around 'moment'.
My cheeks flamed and Jai threw a pillow at Beau. Beau easily caught it and threw it at me. I threw it at Luke and it hit him straight in the face. And before we knew it, we were having a pillow fight.
The room was filled with laughter until someone opened the door. BOOM. A really extremely hot boy appeared. Light brown waves that flowed messily and neatly (don't ask how), piercing blue eyes and a tall, fit, figure. He seemed to be Beau's age, about 18. I couldn't help but noticing he looked familiar.
"Jaakeee," Beau said. "Care to join our pillow fight?"
Jake chuckled and shook his head. "I came to check on how Jai is."
Beau nodded and then noticed my existence. "Jake, this is Violet. Violet, Jake, my best friend from work."
I nodded with a smile and shook his hand. As I looked into his eyes and he looked into mine, I knew it was him. Even if he left 4 year ago when I was 12, I knew it was him.
"Sit down Jake," Luke said, interrupting our intense eye staring session. Jake let go of my hand and sat down on a chair facing Jai's bed as I sat next to Jai who I sensed was jealous.
As Beau and Jake started talking, Luke started texting and Jai remained quiet.
"Are you jelly?" I said jokingly, poking his arm.
He gave me the 'are you stupid or are you stupid' look. "Yeah, I am. When I find the girl I love staring at a hot guy, I have the right to be jealous."
I blushed. I was the girl Jai loved. It was like he was telling me that I'm his. But I still wasn't his girlfriend. He still hadn't officially asked me to...
"Jai, you don't understand. I think it could be him."
I chewed my bottom lip before replying. "Jake, my brother." _____________________________________________________________________________
