Diagon Alley

I was up and dressed two hours before the Weasleys to go to Diagon Alley, and now sat stock still on the sofa, twiddling my thumbs nervously.

I had been doing this for the past hour, and my once flawless coat of nail varnish had become chipped by the continuous nervous twiddling.

I took deep breaths, trying not to think about the situation I would be in this time in two more hours.

I was so caught up in my thoughts, I didn't even hear Ron of all people pad down the stairs.

I must have looked a right sight to him; staring blankly into space, mouth dry, face pale, and palms sweaty.

When he saw me, he stopped still on the staircase, staring at me.

"Bloody hell, Ava! You alright?" he asked, concerned, as he made his way over to sit next to me.

I wanted to answer, but my throat was so dry by now, I honestly couldn't. So instead I just shook my head once.

"Is it about meeting Harry?" he asked kindly... God for an eleven-year-old, he really did know his stuff!

I nodded. He patted my shoulder in understanding before getting up to get me a drink of water. He was so sweet! Maybe Harry will be like him...

Two hours later, on the hour, I was stood in front of the Weasley fireplace, in between Fred and George.

We all knew what we had to do. I stepped forward after Percy had been engulfed by the green flames and had disappeared.

I grabbed a handful of floo powder, and stepped into the fireplace. I took a deep breath, before throwing down the powder, and shouting, "Diagon Alley!"

I was, right there, engulfed in bright green flames, but I didn't burn. No, I only felt a warm tingly feeling spread through my body as I whizzed through the Floo System.

Soon I flew out of a fireplace in a shop I recognised as the junk shop in Diagon Alley. It was practically empty all the time, so it was the perfect place to come out of the Floo Network.

Percy was stood by the door, looking prim and pompous as ever. I rolled my eyes, and decided to hang back by the fireplace.

Soon the other Weasleys came shooting out; Fred, George, Ron, Ginny, Mrs Weasley, and then Mr Weasley.

I smiled at them all, helping them all up to their feet. As we all brushed ourselves off, we unanimously nodded as a 'go ahead' to leave the shop.

Stepping out into Diagon Alley, it was bustling and busy as usual. Now all I had to do was find Hagrid. I was going to shop with him and Harry and then meet up with the Weasleys later on to go back. If things went well, and things between my long-lost brother and I weren't too awkward, I would find my way back to the Burrow myself through the use of Floo Powder.

We were about to all head off together when Percy, pointed over the crowds.

"There! Hagrid is there!" he declared triumphantly.

I rolled my eyes at him, half mad because he was the reason my butterflies about the whole situation had gotten worse.

"I think I'm going to throw up," I muttered to the twins.

They chuckled, both hugging me from their positions on either side of me, in a comforting gesture.

Usually I would have hugged back but I was scared and I stood stock still.

"Ava, darling, you'll be fine," Mrs Weasley embraced me, kissing my cheek in reassurance.

"You better go on, Ava, or your brother may grow concerned," added a smirking Percy.
