"Baby, are you ready yet?" Dylan asked through the bathroom door with exasperation. I rolled my eyes, putting the finishing touches on my lips. I was wearing a casual pastel pink sundress that had minimal shape to it. It ended just below my knees, and I paired it with light brown sandals that wouldn't hurt my feet. They'd been killing me lately.
"Dylan, everyone is going to be here. I have to look presentable," I replied. Normally, I wouldn't care, but today was sort of a big day. My makeup was kept to neutral shades, my lips offering the only splash of light pink color. I thought I looked fine, so I finally opened the door. Dylan was standing on the other side, and he grinned when he saw me, that same shine in his eyes that had been there the first time we met.
"You look beautiful as always." Dylan pulled me to him with a grin, and his hand traveled over my stomach before wrapping around my body. "Are you ready?"
"As I'll ever be," I exhaled. He chuckled and placed a kiss on my nose before taking my hand to walk down to the crowd that had gathered inside of our house. It was large and kind of a modern/antique mix that I had absolutely fallen in love with the day we saw it. Usually, it was empty, just me and him, but today all of our family and friends were here to hear the big news.
Dylan and I descended the stairs hand-in-hand, and there was instant chatter coming from everyone trying to say hello and get in hugs. The hustle and bustle of trying to greet everyone wore me out, but I was determined to stick through it. After the initial excitement, people finally started to simmer down, branching off to look at the house or eat some food and chat with the others.
The doorbell rang, and I walked over to answer it. I grinned at Britt, who was standing on the other side with her husband, Travis. He was a minor league baseball player, but I wasn't quite sure who he played for. Dylan would probably know, but it slipped my mind. Britt laughed happily, both of us going in for a hug. Travis shook my hand. He wasn't really a hugger, but he was super sweet. His hair was blonde like Britt's, and he was a bit shorter than Dylan. It worked though because Britt was so short.
"Dylan!" I called to where he was standing to the left with his buddy Max. He was also holding a beer, nursing it. That ass. Dylan glanced over at my call, then he excused himself to walk over. Dylan set his beer down on the small table beside the door, then he and Britt gave each other a quick, but fond hug, Next, he shook Travis' hand firmly, clapping his shoulder with his free hand, a wide grin on his face as he welcomed the two.
When I found out Dylan and Britt were still on good terms, I was thrilled. My suspicion was that the reason for that was because Dylan and I kept things platonic for the most part. If we hadn't, the whole thing could've been a lot worse, especially for his career. Britt, Travis, Dylan, and I were friends and we'd occasionally gone out on double dates. You'd think it'd be awkward, but Britt was so taken with Travis that it wasn't. She was really in love with him and I was happy for her.
"Make yourself at home," I said, smiling at them before I continued to mingle with guests, giving Dylan's hand a quick a subtle squeeze.
Patrick and Lisa walked in a little late, and I quickly rushed over to give them giant hugs. They grinned at me, returning my hugs adamantly. I had grown so attached to the two the more time I spent with them, and they became more like family than my own family. The living one anyway, who hadn't even bothered to show up.
I called Dylan over again so he could hug his parents, and they had wide smiles on their faces as they hugged. He was so affectionate towards the two and it only made me love him more. My admiration was cut short when Jaden and her husband walked through the door. I excused myself before squealing all the way over to her to embrace her tightly.
