change of cover, again. and indecisive me changed the name of this book to short stories 🤷‍♀️ this story is a 3-parter, and the second part is coming soon (gosh i hate this word, but seriously, it is actually coming soon soon)

believe me when i say that i started writing this in october. the first draft with was written then on my flight to indonesia, but i then i hated it and left it aside. fast foward about two weeks ago, i got tired of writing 'kiss', so i came back to this, changed almost everything except for the main cause of all the events in this, and now here it is. this has gone through a hell ton of titles as well, but i figured i'll go with the title of one of my favourite songs.

this story is inspired by something that was shared by my friend a while back. it really tugged on my heartstrings, and i wanted to write a quick one shot based on that topic.

the words in italics in front of every part of this chapter are lines in the chorus of Stone by James Young, hence, the title. it's a beautiful song, i attached it above!

-so give me all your pain-

"Come on, babe. We need to go!" Kaycee called from downstairs, placing her cup of water down on the counter.

"Babe?" she went up the stairs and opened the door to their room when she didn't get a reply, only to see her husband lying motionless on the bed, still in his pyjamas, air pods in his ears and staring at the ceiling.

"Sean, we're going to be late."

He didn't budge.

"Sean?" she asked again, knowing full well that he had nothing playing in his air pods, and was deliberately avoiding her calls, pretending he couldn't hear her. If there was any music playing in his ears, his fingers or his toes would instinctively be moving with the beat of the song, and he would be coming up with a choreography in his head.

"I know you're not listening to anything, Sean," she leaned against the doorframe, crossing her arms and raising an eyebrow.

He sighed.

"I don't want to go," he muttered under his breath.

"But you have to, it's for your own good, and you know that," she replied, walking over to him. She placed her hand on his wrist and tried to pull him up.

"We're going to be late. Come on, go get chang—"

He shoved her hand away harshly as he turned away from her.

"I said I don't want to go," his voice was firm as he pushed himself up so that he was sitting on the bed, his head leaning against the headrest, still avoiding her gaze.

She took in a deep breath. In times like this, she knew she had to be calm for the both of them. Even if she was breaking inside, she couldn't show it.

"Please, Sean, we need to—"

"I don't fucking want to go! What part of that do you not understand?" he shouted, something he rarely did in the past. It did, however, grow drastically in frequency the past few months.

"I don't know how you can be so stupid and stubborn sometimes," he mumbled to himself, but it was loud enough for Kaycee to hear.

That was when he crossed the line. Her heart clenched tightly as she tried desperately to fight back the hot tears that were beginning to sting her eyes. Drawing in a shaky breath, her gaze shifted to the door.

"Okay," she whispered, almost inaudible, then left the room quietly, before bawling her eyes out in the kitchen.
