You pull into the local coffee shop where your boyfriend Shawn had told you to meet him for a date -- at least that's what you assume. You had gotten a recent haircut, and you were ready to show it off to the love of your life. You look at your reflection in the glass window of the coffee shop to fix your newly cut and layered hair. You enter the shop to see Shawn in the far right corner by the window, dressed in his usual black skinny jeans, simple top, and jean jacket with his favorite pair of boots.
You walk over to him and sit across from him. He doesn't look up from his cup while he slides over a drink for you. Confused, you take the cup of coffee and take a sip of the lukewarm drink. You guess he's been here waiting for quite a while.
"Shawn, is everything okay?"
Shawn looks up at you and nods slightly. "Yeah." His voice was hoarse and dry with no emotion.
You two sit in silence as you both drink your coffees until they're finished. You offer to take Shawn's cup to toss in the trash, but he refuses. He takes your cup and his to toss away in a trash bin across the room.
You look around to see the shop an almost empty shop with just another duo by the front door of the shop chatting and laughing. Why couldn't that be you and Shawn? What was wrong with him?
Shawn comes back, moving his chair next to yours, and takes your hand in his.
"Y/N, I've been thinking for the past month, and I just don't see us working." He looks up at your, his eyes glazed over, and a weary look on his face. "I mean, we don't have much in common as we used to, and with me being gone most of the time, it's really hard to connect with you like we would back before I went on tour."
Stunned, you feel tears in the brim of your eyes, slowly making trails down your rosy cheeks. "But Shawn --"
"Y/N, I gave this a lot of thought, and this hurts me as much it's hurting you. I think it's just best if we don't continue this." You try to hold in the tears, constantly wiping away the tears that try escaping. "And I know this time of the year with Thanksgiving being a problem a few days ago and Christmas coming. I just didn't want to lead you on."
You try to stand up and walk away, but Shawn engulfs you in a hug. "I'm so sorry. I still want to be here for you, but just not continuing as a couple. I've learned that it's okay to have really close friends that are girls. I don't want to lose you, and I know you don't want to lose me."
"Shawn, I think I should go before I start crying really bad." Shawn releases you from his grip as you slowly walk away with tears streaming down your face.
