The silence woke you.

You were still curled up on the couch. You must've fallen asleep. Stretching out your limbs, you looked to the clock next to you.
3:40 am it read. Bloody hell.
If anyone said loneliness can't kill, they were dead wrong.

You fumbled around in the couch cushions until you found your phone, pressing the power button to turn it on.

There were three missed calls from Spencer and a message saying "please call me. Please."
You swiped the notifications away with a swipe of your thumb. Sighing, you tossed your phone back on the couch.
You stretched out, lying on your back, awaiting sleep.

Sadly, it didn't come.

It was 1:00 when you got a call saying you needed to come to a certain location to help with a new case.
You hadn't gone in to work today out of sheer pity for yourself. As pathetic as that is, you hardly regretted it. You quickly put the address in your maps, finished your coffee, already have gotten dressed.

*

30 minutes later you pulled up outside of a bar on the skirts of the city. Emily, Spencer and Morgan were all standing a few feet away.

As you got out of your car, your eyes immediately locked with Spencer's. He held a solid gaze on you but after a few second you couldn't stand to look at him anymore. You weren't sure if things between you had changed. Or what things between you even were.

Emily filled you in. Basically they had a suspect but they need a confirmation. All you had to do was sit at a table and wait for your target. Spencer would stay outside and use tech to make sure no weapons were being used. Emily and Morgan would wait in the van, researching and taking to you through the secluded war piece.

It sounded easy enough. Possibly too easy. Either way, you casually strolled into the bar, ordered a drink and sat down at a table in a corner of the bar.
You honestly know what you were looking for so you mostly just scrolled through your phone, occasionally looking up. But the bar was abnormally quite. Only about ten people were here, including you.
The target was supposed to come here but that didn't seem to be the case.

Outside:

"How's it looking Spence?" Emily asked through her earpiece in the van.

Spencer looked back down at the heat detector in his hands, he stood outside the bar but on the side so as not to be seen.
He scrunched his eyebrows at what he saw.
"Spencer?" Emily questioned again.
"Somethings not right." Spencer finally responded.

"What's happening?" Emily exchanged worried glances with Morgan.
"I don't quite know yet. I'm sending you the heat signatures." Spencer answered, doing what he said.

Soon enough the heat signatures appeared on the computer screens of the van. Sure enough, it didn't look right. The heat signatures were getting higher and hotter by the minute but there was no reasonable explanation for it.

"I think" Spencer hesitates, knowing how serious what he was about to say.

Just then a parked car that was declared empty wen the team first arrived, sped out of the parking lot, leaving clouds of dust as it was soon out of sight.

"It's explosives!" Spencer yelled through the mic.

"Y/N get out of there now!" Emily ordered to your earpiece.

Inside:

You fiddled with your earpiece, only hearing static mixed with Emily's voice.

"What did you say Emily? I think my earpiece is malfunctioning." You asked, getting a bit anxious.

She answered immediately but the only words you were able to make out were "You" and "Out"
Nonetheless, you stood up.
And that's when you heard it.

An undeniable ticking that seemed to come from the wall nearest to you.

It was a long shot but you started the long run towards the exit, unaware of the yelling of "Spencer stop, you can't go in there!" Ringing through all the earpieces.

Your mind went fuzzy as your felt the room shake. It seemed to all go in slow motion as you could feel the pressure of the heat behind your back. Dark smoke was already filling the bar.
As you tried to keep running, couching all the way, you suddenly ran into something. Realizing it was a person you immediately thought they were going to ty and hurt you. But as they put their arms around your back and head and pushed you to the ground, their body covering yours, you realized that they were doing the opposite.
They were protecting you. The last thing you registered was the mystery persons arms shielding you protectively.

And then you lost consciousness.

Wow I haven't updated this book in so long. These past months have been nothing but hell but things are better now so hopefully I'll have more time to write.
