I stirred my coffee together, making motifs with the foam. The phone rang, alarming me as I relinquished the spoon with a loud clang. I answered despite not recognizing the number.
"I suppose you took me off the list?"
"Yeah, you could've easily filed a complaint and gotten me fired if I hadn't."
"And you're just telling me this why?"
"Guess I needed the company before."
"Is it possible to still file a complaint?"
"With proper proof that I doubt you have."
"Why do you do what you do? Y'know annoy the living lights out of people?"
"You're very curious today..."
"Just answer the darn question."
"This is my job. This is how I maintain my family, sure I've been rejected and insulted many times, even threatened but it doesn't matter to me."
"Will you ever get tired of it? You sound pretty young, doesn't your family care about your wellbeing? Education?"
"...it's not that easy."
We stayed in a surprisingly comfortable silence. I heard shuffling and a little girls laughter but I was so focused on everything that'd he'd asked me and how true it was that I didn't notice him calling out to me.
"Aada. If I made you uncomfortable you can hang up."
"Ha, you make me uncomfortable all the time why hang up now."
"This is what a guy gets for trying
to be respectful."
"What about you?"
"What about me?"
"You basically figured out my whole life. So what about yours?"
"It's okay. Normal I guess. I have a big family so the house is always loud."
"Tell me about them."
"I live with my two siblings, mom and her boyfriend. My dads not around."
"Oh, I-I'm sorry about that."
"Don't be. He deserves to rot wherever he is."
"I gotta go, besides I don't want to be a bother to your job."
