inside of the walls

there are noises inside of the walls.

i lay and listen in the darkness.

something swims in the vacancy between the dry wall and the brick.

it's noise creates a pushing force like nails across a board, which the wind amplifies.

once it's amplified, it becomes ear piercing, the discomfort that settles into ones spine when it dislikes the waves of sound.

the noise, it moves around me, from the ear to the neck to the back; an unrelenting warning of what might be inside.

but i won't find out until i break through the barrier between me and it.

through the paint and the worn insulation, the movement stays and haunts me.

as i lay and listen in the darkness,

there are noises inside of the walls.
