Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof. I slam my alarm to turn it off then look over to see Ashton standing infront of me half naked.
"Uh." I stare at him and he turns around and blushes.
"Shit, sorry I just, clothes?" He grins cheekily and I remember now. He stayed the night here. Oh.
I get up and head over to my closet. What would fit him? I look back at him to make sure I'm not imagining things but he's still there. He's going to need something smaller than my clothes but not too much smaller. He's shorter though.
"How about these?" I toss him an old Jimi Hendrix t-shirt and a pair of black.skinny jeans that are a little too short for my legs. "Try those on."
"Can I change in here or.." He trails off when I shrug and I guess he's changing in here but I keep myself from looking. "I'm done."
I turn around and look him up and down. I like how he looks in my clothes with his messy hair but he looks in the mirror and frowns.
"What's wrong?" I ask confused. I think he looks cute.
"Nothing, it's just, my hair." He says, poking at the curls. I roll my eyes but toss a gray beanie to him. "Thanks."
I put on a plain black tee and drop a sweater over it then I put on my own skinny jeans.
"If you want to do your hair, feel free to. I'm going to fix mine, it's a mess." He shrugs and I shrug so I just go to the bathroom to work on my hair.
Hey girl. I text Audrey and look at myself in Luke's mirror. My eyes look brighter than usual, almost green, and my skin looks like it's glowing. He hasn't insulted me yet. I smile and I look wonderful. Surely it's a good sign that he hasn't insulted me.
"Hi, Ashton, how are you this morning?" Luke's grandmother greets me from the doorway. "How is Luke behaving?"
"I'm great, thanks and you? And he's being very kind." I smile at her and she smiles back larger and I feel my stomach drop. She's so much like my old grandmother that died.
"That's great, and I'm doing fantastic today. I made you two pancakes then I'm going over to my friend Martha's." I follow her downstairs and she keeps talking and I keep listening. "We're having a girl's night out today and I haven't had one in who knows how long. I'm usually here with my husband and Luke but my husband's still at the hospital and well, I see Luke may be preoccupied."
"Morning grandma!" Luke interrupts and walks over to his grandmother, wrapping his arms around her. "I smell pancakes!"
I smile at her and she grins then turns to Luke.
"Yeah, I'm going out now, I made some pancakes for you two. Don't eat them all Luke. I'm sure Ashton wants some too." She leaves after we both give her a hug and I find myself alone with Luke but it's not as awkward as yesterday after school.
"Pancakes?" He offers me a plate stacked with pancakes and I shake my head. "What?
"Nothing. I'm not hungry." He looks at me quizzically and I shrug.
"When's the last time you ate?" I shrug again and he rolls his eyes. "Eat these pancakes and quit shrugging."
I sit down at the table next to him and the pancakes look delicious and I can feel my stomach growl. I look at his stack compared to mine and start laughing.
"What?" Luke asks, looking embarrassed. "Did I get something on me? Is there something on my face?"
"No, no, it's just. Look." I put our plates next to eachother and his pancakes are stacked more than double the height of mine.
"Hey, I'm a growing a boy, I need my food. You do too, but you're not even eating yours." He points at my plate with his fork after he shoves another whole pancake into his mouth and I have to stop myself from imagining other things in his mouth.
I shake my head and laugh and we eat our pancakes while watching a beauty pageant on television.
"What kind of person spoils their kid that much?" Luke snaps, outraged that the little girl got a dress over a thousand dollars. "My parents never get me shit."
"Well, they spoil her because they want her to think she's more important than everyone else because they think she's cute when she throws ridiculous tantrums. In the end it's only harming her, you know. She'll be sad when people don't get her everything she wants just because she's pretty." He continues glaring at the screen then sighs.
"Whatever." He stands up to put his plate in the sink and I hand him mine. "I gotta go to school."
We go outside and I go to the passenger side of his car. He looks at me confused, one eyebrow raised and I mimic his expression.
"What are you doing?" He asks slowly.
"I thought we're going to school?" I stare at him bewildered.
"Yeah, but what do you think they'll think of me if they see me with you?" I'm silent and I watch him. "I mean, you're wearing my clothes, if you rode with me, they'd suspect us even more."
"I thought we had something getting started."
"Yeah, but, people can't know about us."
"Why not?" I snap, sounding harsher than I meant to but I don't take it back.
"Ashton, you know why." There's a pained look in his eyes and my stomach twists. "Can't we take this slow? I'm not used to it, it just began. I don't know how I'm going to come out or face anyone about this. I'm sorry."
"Okay, I'll walk." I shrug and he thanks me before getting in and driving away.
I begin my treacherous walk to school and arrive late. I curse myself but then I see Audrey standing in the hall outside our first class fuming. When she sees me she smiles and gives me a big hug then looks confused.
"You're late!" I nod and roll my eyes. "I'm so mad at Luke! He's such an asshole."
"Why?" I ask. She seems more angry than I thought she'd be. "What'd he do? And why were you in the hallway?"
"I got detention." I see her eyes tear up and she tries to blink them away but they spoil over anyway. I know how much she worries about school and getting in trouble.
"What? Why? What happened?"
"I threw a tampon at Luke in the beginning of class." She sniffles and I look at her wide eyed.
"So, I threw it at him right? Like, I said 'Luke! Get your feelings together, you're like a girl on her period!' then I threw the tampon at him." She wipes her eyes but I'm still lost.
"He told me he had you walk then when class started he wouldn't stop kissing fucking Lexi," she growls.
