"ARRRRGH!" Clary yelled in frustration, putting her head in her hands. Why me? She thought. Why does it always have to be me? I'm such an idiot, a burden for everyone around me.
She moved slowly out of the bed, and looked around her room. There were no windows, just gold, lit candles that were scattered around the room. Beside her bed was a new set of clothes; a green silk shirt and dark denim jeans.
Hell, no. I will not wear anything that they give me, She thought, but then remembered what she was currently wearing. She would not let Dante, or whoever this guy was, see her in this. Realizing that she didn't have a choice, she put on the clothes and tried to ignore how they fit her perfectly and how the colour brought out her eyes.
She started to walk back to the bed when she heard faint voices outside her door. She pressed her ear against the door and listened.
"You will NOT question or interrogate her until she is ready." Was that Dante?
"But Sir, we need answers and information now. She will not tell us anything without force."
"YOU WILL NOT HURT HER, UNDERSTAND?" Clary heard a body smash against the wall. "If any if you so dare touch her, I will personally send a demon to rip out your insides, am I clear?"
A gasp. "Y-Yes Sir. But the time-"
"Yes, I know. But the more you try to force information out of her, the less she will give you, and less corporation.
I will see that I get information from her, without cruelty. Now get on with what I told you to do."
"Yes, Sir." Feet walking away.
Clary sank against the door and stared at the wall, in disbelief. Is Dante trying to protect me? What's going on?
Alec, Magnus, Isabelle, Simon, and Maia sat around a large, circular table in the Institute library. Everyone was holding a cup of coffee an had dark rings under their eyes.
Jace was slumped against the wall, facing the window, running his hands through his hair. His nails were bitten down to nubs and his face was tight with worry. He hadn't slept or ate since Clary went missing, too overcome by worry to think or do anything else. He looked away from the group, silent as everyone was shouting ideas to find Clary. It's my fault she's gone, Jace thought, pushing the heels of his hands into his eyes. It's always my fault she gets hurt.
Isabelle spoke, glancing around the table. "I think we should notify the Clave. This is, like, code red-"
"-head." Magnus interjected, smiling to himself. "Get it? Because she's a redhead, so this is code redhead-"
Everyone looked up and stared at him, their eyes wide.
"God, Magnus just shut up," Alec whispered to him, nudging Magnus' leg with his foot.
"Sorry, just trying to lighten the mood." Magnus said, standing up and glancing around the room. "Because, I know how to find Clary, if it wasn't already obvious."
"How?" Maia and Simon asked in unison.
"A tracking spell, obviously. I just need one of Jace's boots that he wore last night, and then we should be set to find her by sunset."
"His boot?" Isabelle said, her brow furrowing. "Why on Earth-"
Jace grimaced and spoke as he turned away from the window and looked towards Magnus and her. "Because her blood is on my boots. That's the only way to track her, to find her. I-I'll get them now."
He ran out of the room and slammed the door behind him. He breathed hard as he ran through the institute hallways and up to his room.
We would find Clary. We will find Clary.
I will find Clary.
