We went out, after our parent’s memorial, Remy bought us dinner, after beating Rick in the “Who to buy dinner for the girls” competition, and of course to warm my sister’s heart. Because buying five people dinner is the new thing, seriously what happened to normal gifts?
We ate like pigs, kissed Jane and Rick goodbye and head home with Remy. He’s sleeping over of course.
Every year like today, Lisa would have an emotional moment just for her lost one, and Remy couldn’t leave her to go through all that, so he would sleep on the couch just to make her see that he’s always there, on the couch if she woke up in the middle of the night. And I would hear the whispers from the living room and the smell of French bread and cheese. Bunch of weirdos, cute don’t get me wrong, but weirdos.
She would climb into my bed, and we would whisper memories to each other. Every year, like today.
We don’t want to let go, you see, letting go is too tough, too stupid, how about keeping those memories and some of that sadness, putting away the breakdowns, everybody knows we couldn’t bring them back, and just live? It’s kind of the wise thing to do.
I felt a poke on my arm.
“You awake, Fi?”
“Yes babe, you okay?”
“Spit it out, Lisa”
“Do you miss him, Fi?”
I closed my eyes, letting the fist that has been clenching on my heart sooth a bit. Marc, being “Him” of course, every time he’s mentioned my body always betrays me.
“What do you think?”
She sighs and hugs my arm. Baby sister is like that cute little teddy bear that holds a wooden swords and just ready to fight those monsters under your bed. She thinks she’s strong enough to fight for me.
“I think you really miss him”
“Do me a favor, babe” I said after a minute of silence.
“Anything”, she whispers back.
“Tell Remy you love him”
She pushed up from the mattress, eyes widening and glassy, cheeks flushing under he freckles.
I raised my eyebrow at her and pulled her down to her previous “unstartled “ position.
“I ain’t dumb Lisa. He cherishes the ground you walk on. Seriously found boobs and brains and beauty. And no man can be dumb enough to ignore the three Bs, babe. And I don’t think he’s dumb enough either to neglect perfection that is next to him 24/7, and find someone else”.
I leaned in, kissed her cheek and continued.
“And I know you love him because of those eyes, you look at him as if you just saw a Skarsgärd, and you just blush whenever you’re hugging, which by the way is unbelievably inappropriate. He’s always soooo happy to see you, Lisa, after that hug” I crack up a laugh.
She blushed, giggles, and smacked me on my arm lightly.
“You’re so bad!”
“Seriously sometimes I have to look away while he adjusts himself”
She covers her face and laughs harder with me, hugging me to her.
“Should I go now?” she said, after our laughter died down.
“Do you want to tell him now?”
“Yes, I can’t wait anymore”
She runs to grab her robe, slips it on and hurries to the door blushing, she stopped and looked at me from the doorway.
“You’re the shit big sister!”
“I love you, Fi”
“Love you too , babe”
After she went down, I hurriedly, went after her, but in discreet of course.
Descending the stairs silently, trying not to creek the wooden floor, I found them huddled in a hug, well I couldn’t see her under his arm and shoulder, that guy isn’t human, he’s so huge! They lay there on the couch, softly whispering to each other, he constantly kept on kissing her face, her nose, her lips and she would turn into a blushing tiny human. He would every now and then lay on her a hot and heavy one, which is so hot, but then I would remember her as my sister and slowly cover my eyes. And she would slip her leg around his and cuddle on his board chest, marking it as her new pillow.
And before they nodded off to sleep I heard it.
“I love you, baby”
“I love you too, Remy”
A tear slipped my eye, and it just stood there on my check. Well screw it! If I didn’t get that, my sister got it now! And that made me whole, after all those years, again.
I woke up to the sound of banging on my bedroom door. I groaned and squeezed the pillow to my face. Why? Seriously, I need to sleep, just why?!
“What!” I yelled.
“Wake up, Fi.” Remy, chanted?
“Go away you inhumanly creature of the underground!”
“FIONA!” he chanted again.
I slipped my slippers and my robe, angrily tying the ropes and snapped the door open.
“You have ten seconds to explain to me why the hell are you banging on my door at this hour you big beast. Make that five!”
He wrapped me in his big muscular arms and squeezed the shit out of me, towering over me and kissing my forehead.
“She told me what you said yesterday, I just want to thank you for making the first move before me, Fi, I wouldn’t have done it”.
“I would’ve called you a coward, but then again, you didn’t want her to slip away if you did, did you?”
“Hell no” he shocked his head.
“Welcome to the family, Rem” I leaned in and kissed his cheek.
“Now you can fix the door freely!” I said breaking the drama and tried to close the door at his face.
“I made pancakes, and she’s awake!”
We went down to the kitchen and I was surprised to see a whole breakfast table waiting for me.
“Either your mom is Lebanese, or she’s Greek. No one makes that kind of breakfast tables anymore” I said to him. And of course he was busy running his hand over her waist while she’s flipping the pancakes. Kissing her fully on the lips.
I sat down and they joined me. Sitting before me, they snacked a hand on the table and held mine. I smiled at both of them and squeezed their hands.
Finishing the none ending breakfast, I rushed and gathered my stuff, dumping my phone charger in my bag, make up and wallet. After getting dressed, I slipped on the boots and eye scanned my living room, and then flying keys flew towards me, catching them and looked at my thrower. Remy. I smiled at him and air kissed him, smacked a kiss on Lisa’s cheek and ran to the door.
I stopped and turned and looked at them both.
“Do I look hot?”
“Yeah!” Remy yelled laughing.
“Smokin’” Lisa said smiling.
“And do I look like an aunt to you?”
They both looked at me funnily, had no idea what I was talking about.
“Condoms, you little shits, she’s going to be 19, and you’re reaching 23 years, Condoms Remy!”
“Love you too” they yelled back laughing.
