I groaned as I opened my eyes. Looking up, I could see Yura staring down at me.
"Are you alright, Yukino-san?"
"I-I think so..." As I tried to sit up, I felt a sharp pain on my leg and I winced.
"Careful, your injuries might reopen."
"That's alright, I can fix it."
Slowly, I unwrapped the bandage around my leg and flinched at the ugly looking wound. I let my hands hover above the wound and heal it as Yura stared in amazement.
I shrugged, "I've always been able to do this. I don't know how or why, though." I looked around the tradition styled room, "Where are we anyway?"
Yura sighed, "The Nura Main House."
"W-Wha? Can you start from the beginning?"
"I ran over to help you when I saw you being attacked by that yokai and I quickly killed it but you had already fainted. Ri- I mean, a yokai came and asked if you were alright. In the end, we were both brought here. Do you... know...? That Rikuo is..." She trailed off.
"A yokai? And that this house is the headquarters for a yokai clan? I suppose so."
"Well then, I'll continue. It seems that yokai are attracted to you because of your healing powers that Rikuo told me about. The Keikain Clan would like to offer you protection."
I thought for a moment.
'Well, I do value my life, but I won't be able to see Rikuo as much then...'
"Sure, thank you for your appreciation." I replied, making my decision.
"No problem. Protecting humans from yokai is what the Keikain Clan does, and there was someone similar to you many years ago."
I giggled, already knowing who it was, "Maybe I'm just a reincarnation?" I joked.
"I'll meet you at the front door tomorrow then. You'll be staying with me from now on." Yura said while standing up and opening the door.
"Would it be alright... if I stayed here for one more night...? I want to rest."
She looked at me with hesitant eyes,
"...Okay then, just be safe, I'll see you tomorrow morning then."
I sat quietly and unmoving as I listened to her foot steps slowly fade away. Sighing, I fell back into the futon, exhausted. Before I knew it, I fell back asleep.
When I woke up, it was already late night and I was quite hungry. I stood up as my stomach growled and that was when I noticed the familiar figure sitting next to me.
"Y-You!" I squeaked in surprise and pointed at him, "Why are you here?"
The Night Rikuo raised his eyebrows at me and grabbed my accusing hand while leaning in, "Checking if you were alright. Is this what I get for being concerned?"
I flushed, "I'm fine..."
He gestured to the food tray beside him, "You must be hungry."
He smirked at shoved a spoon full of food to my face.
"What?" I blinked in confusion, staring at the spoon in front of me.
"O-Okay." Hesistantly, I opened my mouth and swallowed the food, "It's good."
Patiently, he leaned back and watched me as I finished my food quickly.
"Let's go." He said as I finished.
"Just close your eyes."
I did as I was told and I felt his arms wrap around me as the wind swirled around us. When I opened my eyes, I recognized the place as the underground training area for the Nura Clan members.
"Why are we here...?"
"You already know who I am right?"
"That's right, Rikuo-kun, but that doesn't change the way I view you."
'Well, that's because I had always known.'
He smiled at me before throwing a sword at me. Panicked, I fidgeted around before catching it. It was heavier than the plastic, fake swords me and my friends would swing around when we were small.
"W-Why? Besides, I have no idea how to use this thing..."
"As you heard earlier, many yokai are going to be after you and I want you to be safe so you should learn the basics of fighting."
'Awww, he cares...' Sometimes I wish that my inner fangirl would just shut up.
"But Keikain-san said that she would keep me safe."
"And what if she isn't there to protect you?"
I stayed silent.
He asumed that as an agreement and pulled out his Nenekirimaru as I fumbled around with the katana in my hand, unsure how to hold it, I felt awkward while holding it.
'I'm a healer not a fighter, dammit.'
As he charged at me, I felt a strange instinct and I swiftly dodged to the right and swung my katana down at his blind spot. His fear kicked in and he disappeared into a black mist, although he had a surprised look on his face.
"That's not so bad. Let's try again."
I nodded, enthusiastic, and closed my eyes. I let that instinct take me over and I gripped my katana. I ran at him and he took a defensive stance but I sidestepped into his left when he was looking at the front and swung down. Our katanas clashed and a loud sound echoed throughout the training room. I felt... proud for being able to do that.
As my movements became faster and swifter, I manipulated the katana in my hand as the fighting instinct completely took over. I could see a bead of sweat on his face and I smiled mentally. I had no idea that I could do this.
He seemed more tired than me, and I could tell he was getting frustrated because he activated his fear and I was no longer an opponent that could match him. Even though I was good with the katana, I couldn't land a blow or do anything if he used his fear against me.
We stopped, both tired.
"When did you learn that?" He looked at me in confusion.
"I'm not so sure myself. I just followed my instincts."
I nodded and he smirked at me, "I guess you aren't the fragile damsel in distress that I had imagined you to be."
"I guess so." I smiled back at him, before collapsing out of exhaustion.
"I-I'm fine." I replied weakly on the floor, "I just like it better on the floor..."
He chuckled at me and helped me up.
Rikuo had invited us Tono yokai last week just to see each other after a long time. While the others were fairly excited, I was quite irritated. I admit, it's nice to see him again but I would never say that out loud.
As I headed down to the training room underground to cool my thoughts, I heard people and sword clashing in the training room. What confused me the most was that one of those people was a human.
I walked down silently and quickly moved behind the door of the training room. I peered over the door slightly and saw a human girl and Rikuo, fighting. The idiot wasn't activating his fear but if you payed attention closely, the girl was overpowering Rikuo in katana fighting and he was slightly more tired than she was.
'Who is that?'
