Chapter Thirty Eight

12.7K 405 65

"Hey babe, how was lunch with Mia?"

I watched as Ally stormed through the door, completely ignoring my presence as she took a seat on the couch across from me, immediately placing her head in her hands.

"You okay?" I quickly asked.

I sat up on the couch, trying to read her expression as either anger or sadness, but I couldn't place it.

"What happened?" I pressed on.

Ally shook her head, biting down hard on her lip as she squeezed her eyes shut.

"I just-I, I got some...news," Ally stuttered.

I raised an eyebrow, expecting hee to go on, but our conversation was cut short by her phone ringing from her pocket.

"I'll be right back," She mumbled as she scurried off upstairs to take the phone call.

Minutes had passed without a return of Ally, so I followed her footsteps to my bedroom and peered in.

"Ally? Please tell me what's going on," I begged.

The door in front of me vanished as she pulled it open, falling into my arms in a single movement.

"Hey, it's okay," I said soothingly.

"No," She whimpered. "It's not."

I kissed her forehead gently as she looked up at me, tears threatening her eyes.

"Is it your Dad?" I guessed.

She shook her head, took a deep breath and said, "it's Mia."

"What happened to her?" I demanded.

"I don't know if I should tell you," Ally whispered.

"Her secret is safe with me," I assured her.

"First can I ask you something?"

I smiled, "anything."

"Could Mia stay with us for a little while?"

I nodded immediately, replying, "yeah. For however long she needs. What's going on?"

"I, um, I'm going to call Mia first. Tell her she can stay. I'll tell you in a few minutes, okay?"

"I'll be downstairs," I told her.

I set a plate of salad in front of Ally, who had barely spoken after her call to Mia. I decided to give her some time to recuperate before asking again what was going on.

"Feeling any better?" I asked.

I took a seat across from her at the table, watching her pick at her food.

"No," She sighed.

"I'm sure it'll be fine."

"No!" Ally shouted.

I froze at the raise of her voice and watched as she rapidly brushed a tear from her cheek.

"It's not going to be okay this time Demi. This is going to effect Mia for the rest of her life!" She added quietly, "and she doesn't deserve any of it."

I reached for her hand and took it in both of mine, squeezing it slightly.

"We're both here for Mia, though.  Right?"

"Right," Ally sniffled.

"Mind telling me what's going on?" I asked lowly.

Ally pushed the dark hair off her forehead as she answered, "Mia is pregnant."
