1: Hell holes, New friends and New enemies
“I can’t believe you’re making me do this.” I spat at my mother who pulled into the driveway of my cousins rented house. She was getting a divorce, for the fourth time. My step-father started to get abusive and he “accidently” slapped my face last week. My mother decided that was her cue to step in and actually do something for my sake. That was until she told me what I was going to do.
“You’ll be fine Samantha. Just until the divorce is over with, you can come back.” My mother says and turns off the car, causing everything to go silent.
“And that will be… when? A month? Three months? Or even a year?” I spat.
She sighs and looks at me, her green eyes filling up with tears. I hated it when she cried.
“Look, I know this is hard but, I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“So you send me to a living hell hole. Thanks. You know I hate him! He hates me as well so how’s this going to work?!” I yell and my mother flinches. I calm down a bit and force the door open to my mother’s red convertible, walk to the trunk, grab my suitcase and skateboard and start to walk into my living nightmare. I stop and look back at her. She was watching me go.
“Do me a favour and NEVER get married again, got it?” I say and push my dark brown hair away from my eyes, tucking them behind my ear. She just stares with a sad expression on her pale face. Maybe it was just the weather it was so pale, gloomy and raining out but, I forgot about the rain and watched her as she started her car again and drove off back to the airport. We weren’t from London, England like my cousin was. I was originally from Manitoba, Canada and I started missing the beautiful, sunny weather there. I walk around the big garage and up the walk way to the front door. I don’t even bother knocking and I walk in, noticing five pairs of sandals, sneakers and about a million different pairs of TOMS in all colors.
“Who’s here Liam?!” I heard from upstairs. This house was absolutely huge. Two floors, a huge back yard, a lovely kitchen, big living room with a flat screen television and a basement. From the looks of it, the basement was for video games only.
“Uhm. Hello? You must be Samantha. I’m Liam.” A tall, brown haired boy stood in front of me, staring at me with his big brown eyes while holding his hand out. I ignore his hand shake and brush past him. I take off my converse and fix my floral tank top that was tucked under my white cardigan. Liam turns around, looking quite confused at why I didn’t take his handshake.
“What are you so confused about?” I spat and his eyes widen.
“Sorry miss. Didn’t mean to get on your bad side.” He says back and stuffs his hands in his pockets awkwardly. I roll my eyes and walk further into the house, leaving my suitcase but still clutching my skateboard. I couldn’t get over how big this house was. Definitely two times bigger than my own house. I sigh and I hear a bunch of footsteps coming down the carpeted staircase loudly. A blond boy and another brown haired boy came down and stopped in their tracks when they saw me. The one wearing a striped shirt and a grey beanie winked at me. I roll my eyes and he looked offended.
“Who’s this cranky pants.” He mumbles and my head shoots up.
“This is Zayn’s cousin. She will be staying with us until… well, when exactly?” Liam asks.
“I don’t know. I don’t want to be her anyways so don’t ask me.” I scoff and all three boys looked offended. “What? It’s a hell hole here already and I just got here like what, two minutes ago?”
“Hey kid, listen. I don’t like your attitude so change it or you’ll have to deal with me.” Stripes says and I laugh.
“Who might you be?” I say with an amused smile on my face.
