"It only happened two days ago... but yes, I have," I told her, nodding my head as I thought back to the text he had sent me earlier. "He texted me this morning, we talked for a couple minutes."
"How was he?"
"Well, I didn't ask," I said, shrugging my shoulders. "He texted me about a bracelet I left at his—"
"Why did you take your bracelet off?" Mom asked and I gasped, hoping she didn't think anything happened.
"I didn't take it off, you jerk, it fell off." My eyes rolled and my mom snickered to herself, making me want to gag. "Anyway," I said forcefully, wanting to change the subject entirely, "we just got into a conversation about where we worked, and then he had to go because his break was over."
"Where does he work?" Mom asked, clearly interested in the entirety of Calum's business.
"At a gym," I told Mom, remembering what he had told me. "I'm picturing him working as a trainer, because that's sort of really hot, but with my luck, he's probably a custodian or something."
"Well, if he's a trainer, maybe he can motivate you to work out some. Not that you need it, but it might be good for your psyche." I raised my eyebrows at my mom's words and waited for her to laugh, but she never did. "You know, Anna and I have started taking yoga, and—"
"Keep your yoga far away from me," I told her, smiling sweetly. She sighed, but kept a smile on her face. "I implied to Calum that our second date could be to one of my beer testings."
"Who could turn that down?" Mom joked. I started to play with the ends of the blanket that was halfway laying across me, and I could feel my mom's eyes on me. "What's up, sweetheart?"
"Nothing, I'm just thinking," I told her, shrugging my shoulders as I continued to look down. "What if I never fall in love? Like, what if that's just not in the cards for me?"
"That's not the end of the world... but I have a feeling you're going to." I looked up at my mom and I smiled at her, wanting her to know I was appreciative of her words.
"Mom! Nina's having me over for New Years again!" Anna's voice could be heard from somewhere in the house and I laughed quietly, thinking she was such a teenager.
"Okay, sweetie!" Mom said before turning to me with a big smile on her face; she was planning something.
"What's that look?" I asked her, suspicious of her intentions.
"You know what would be so fun?"
"What?" I asked, wanting her to explain her thoughts.
"A New Year's Eve party! Having a date to a New Year's Eve party has got to be the most fun event each year when you're in a relationship," Mom said and my heart started to pound, for little reason.
I hadn't had a date to a New Year's Eve party since high school, but since then I had, basically, hooked up with someone for the hell of getting a New Years kiss and having some fun. Things didn't always go all the way, but I hadn't gone to a New Year's Eve party without getting a third of the way to black out drunk in a long time. Obviously if I went with Calum, that couldn't happen.
"Are you deep in thought?" Mom asked me and I snapped out of it as I looked over at her. "Wouldn't that be fun?"
"Oh, definitely," I said, nodding my head. Before a second could pass, Wesley rushed into the room and over to the couch I was sitting in, taking it upon himself to dive into me and laid on top of me, causing me to whimper in pain. "Wes, what the hell? Get off of me!" I hit Wesley's shoulder hard and he let out a yelp.
"Don't be such an asshole," he told me and I gave him a look of pure anger.
"You just tackled me, asshole," I told him, trying to push him off of me.
"Both of you, stop," Mom demanded and Wesley rolled off of me and sat down beside of me, crossing his arms over his chest. "Are you guys having fun yet?" Wesley wrapped his arms around me and aggressively kissed my cheek, causing me to grimace.
"Why are you acting seven?"
"I like seeing you annoyed, but only on occasion. I'm sorry, Sonny." Wesley ruffled my hair as he stood up and I lunged for him, but he dodged and ran out of the living room.
"What was the point of any of that?" I asked my mom, hoping she could tell me.
"He misses you," she told me and my eyes rolled, but I tried to lighten up, so I let out a short, quiet laugh. My phone suddenly dinged and I began to look for it, knowing it was lost in the blanket I had been using. I eventually found it and looked down at the screen to see a text from Calum. A smile found its way onto my face and I didn't hesitate to open it and respond.
