Elena kept pretending to read the book she was holding in her hand when in fact she was discreetly enjoying seeing Elestren. At the moment, Elestren seemed more entertaining than the book seeing how hard she was trying to ignore Elena. For the past two hours, Elena watched as Elestren fumbled with different things and continued giving excuses even when Elena didn't ask her for.

"Just so you know, I baked chocolate chip cookies a while ago," Elestren said nonchalantly. "Not that I made them for you."

"Hmm" Elena hummed in response just like she has been responding for the past few hours. Of course, it was only to annoy Elestren more.

"Alright fine!" Elestren finally snapped, "I'm sorry. I was wrong."

"But I didn't say anything" Elena pointed out.

"But you were thinking about it."

"No, I wasn't."

"Yes you were, why else would you ignore me," Elestren huffed.

"Wasn't it you who was ignoring me?" Elena looked at her and raised an eyebrow.

"I..umm...whatever," Elestren raised her hands in frustration, "but you should have told me that you still had a plan"

"There's no fun if I told you everything," Elena shrugged.

"I should have known better that you are not one to sit still when shit happens", Elestren muttered making her laugh.

Elestren narrowed her eyes at Elena making her raise her hands in surrender.

"We will be leaving this town tomorrow by the way," Elena told Elestren.

"Where are we going next?"

"You tell me, it was me who decided to stay in this town so you select the next one," Elena said and put the book away.

She watched Elestren as she excitedly took out her phone probably to check the map. It was amusing to see that even though Elestren was three years older than her, she behaved quite the opposite of it. If one to see the two they would think Elena was the older one here.

"Can we go to a pack this time?" Elestren asked, her eyes still glued to the screen of her phone.

"Why do you want to go to a pack land?"

"Because I have never lived the life of a pack" she looked up with an excited glimmer in her eyes.  "Like I have heard people talk of it, the loyalty they have to the pack, the love existing between them, and the best part is the hierarchy among them."

"What's so good about the hierarchy? It only means that some people will be treated better than the others," Elena said.

"You have read so many books yet you don't know. The hierarchy exists based on their contributions and strengths. Alpha is an alpha because he is the strongest and can lead his pack. The beta is someone on whom the alpha can lean on and the gamma..."

"Wait!" Elena stopped Elestren and looked at her confused "I thought alphas were selected because they were born in the alpha family"

"That was before—" Elestren waves her hand, "like centuries ago. After it was noticed that not all the children of the previous alphas proved to be good alphas, the council made a new rule."

"Oh!"

"Where have you been living and what books you are reading when you don't even have such basic knowledge?" Elestren looked at her surprised.

"I am not interested in learning things that have no use to me. It's not like I'm ever going to live in a pack" Elena shrugged.

"You never know. After you find your mate..."

"I don't have a mate" Elena cut her off, "I'm a half-blood. I'm born without an inner wolf. Don't forget that"

"I...I didn't mean it that way" Elestren stuttered. Guilt evident in her voice.

"It's okay," Elena smiled. She got up and made her way towards the kitchen. "So, where are the cookies?"

"I have emailed the Ashbryn to allow us a stay," Elena told Elestren when the two finally lied down on their bed call it a day

"I have emailed the Ashbryn to allow us a stay," Elena told Elestren when the two finally lied down on their bed call it a day.

" Really? What did they say?" Elestren asked in excitement?

"We have to stay outside the border until someone fetches us and lead us inside to the guest house or something like that"

Elestren snorted. "What are we, prisoners or what?"

"It's their protocol or something. They won't allow us to enter either if they found us suspicious or something," Elena said.

"And the two of us aren't suspicious at all," Elestren said sarcastically making Elena chuckle.

"It was your idea to go to a pack" Elena pointed out.

"So why Ashbryn pack?"

"Because Ashbryn is the closest pack to this town and... We can find out how they took care of that experiment situation"

"Smart," Elestren said and suddenly an excited expression took over her face, "I can't wait to go there."

"Don't get too excited. We are not sure if they will allow us to stay or not"
