Seven Months Later
"And, how long have you been doing YouTube now?" I asked, glancing at Mathew before smiling at the camera.
"It's been just three months—but you wouldn't believe how quickly my subscribers have grown," he replied with a grin. "Seriously—people love my content. I owe my fans everything. Thanks to them, I get to do what I love to do and make videos. I never could have figured it out without your help."
"Well, thanks so much for doing this video with me, I really appreciate it," I replied happily as pride swelled inside me. Turning back to the camera again, I added, "Make sure you check out Matt's channel—the link's in the description. And if you want to see more YouTube channel hack videos, subscribe below!"
I let out a breath and laughed, before getting to my feet.
Matt also got up from his usual filming couch.
"Awesome. I can't thank you enough—it was amazing working with you."
I turned off the camera and dismounted it from the tripod.
"It was a pleasure," I beamed back. "Anyway, I have to get going. But let me know how things go, okay? You have my number."
He nodded. I quickly finished packing up and left his apartment, rushing down the steps. Wesley was waiting with his car, two Vanilla Bean Frappes in his hands. He was sipping one, and I could only assume the other was for me, made on soy.
I opened the back door to dump my equipment and then jumped in the passenger side.
"Hey there!" I greeted, beaming. "You didn't have to get me this!"
He passed it to me with a smile.
"Course I did. You've been working hard, you deserve it," he replied, and leaned over to kiss my cheek. He backed out of the driveway and onto the road.
"So, how is she?" I asked, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
"She just got home. Asher's with her, and the others should be there soon."
"Did they decide on a name yet?" I asked.
"I think they went with Alyson."
Alyson Cortez, huh?
"That's a lovely name," I smiled, and Wesley nodded in agreement.
"I think Nathan is coming over later too. Jade wants him to meet her."
"Well of course. He is the baby's dad."
Wesley narrowed his eyes at the road. "I still don't trust that guy."
I rolled my eyes. "Oh, come on Wesley. He's been really good these past few months. He's been helping out in all sorts of ways!"
"Sure, but it doesn't change his past."
I sighed. I guess it was going to take a bit longer before Wesley could move past everything that had happened. But today wasn't about that. Today was Jade's special day.
We pulled up at the house and I rushed inside. I didn't even grab my equipment from the back seat—I was far too excited.
I could hear talking from upstairs, so I headed up there. Wesley followed close behind. We reached Jade's bedroom, where the door was ajar, and very quietly nudged it open.
She looked over at us, beaming, her baby girl in her hands. Asher was perched on the bed with her, and Connor and Kurt stood over in the corner watching.
"Hey," she whispered.
"Oh my God," I breathed, eyes wide. Her baby was so beautiful, wrapped in a pink blanket. She looked just like Jade.
Baby Alyson was fast asleep, and I edged closer to get a better look.
"Can I hold her?" I asked, and Jade nodded. She carefully handed her to me, and I held Alyson in complete awe of the tiny, precious life in my arms.
"She's in a good home," Jade murmured happily.
"The best kind of home," Kurt agreed. "You won't find this much support anywhere else."
I was beaming at Jade and Wesley.
I couldn't believe this was really my life now. If you had told me this twelve months ago I never would have believed it, or even dreamed it.
I guess it's like the Kardashian's say—there's nothing stronger than the power of family, and that's how really win at life. You know when to stop, to celebrate, and to cherish the people in your lives. The people who make your family, and create your home.
My name is Wren Robinson—Starbucks meme and scandal queen—and this is my life.
I finished the book. Omg. This was unexpected.
I knew I was close to the end but I didn't realise how close until now.
If you made it this far I just want to say thank you so, so much for reading this book, for making it all the way to the end, I am so thankful for each and every one of you who has voted, commented, and supported me along the way. It means a great deal to me so thank you very much!
Also, I have a confession to reveal... this book is inspired by a real YouTube channel I follow, who live in a real life share house. The characters are very loosely based on real people.
I don't know them in any way, I'm not affiliated with them and all the ideas and content in this story is my own... but I will say that a number of their videos inspired the makeup of this story.
If you loved this book, go check them out. I'm sure they'd appreciate it:
• Sam and Colby
• Corey Scherer
I didn't want to reveal this until the very end because I didn't want people to get influenced by it and think it was a fan fiction. That wasn't my intention.
BTW, some other characters are influenced by various internet personalities too. Tell me if you can figure out which characters are based on who! I'm curious, hehe ;)
(P.S: If I do a sequel, my question is... do you wanna know what happens on the road trip?
I have some sequel ideas in mind but it might be a couple of months until I get around to it)
Thank you again!
