it was a chilly afternoon, the result of it being the middle of november. lidia quickly hurried down the sidewalk of her everyday path to work. she kept her head down low, doing her best to avoid contact with anyone who passes by her. she carried her notebooks in one hand and a basket of banana bread and apple pie she had baked earlier that morning in the other.
as she entered the familiar small building on the corner, locking the door and turning towards the counter. a cold breeze followed behind her as she slid into a room. it was followed with different things such as avocado toast, piggy banks full of bacon to pictures of her ex husbands.
although she was only twenty two, she had married four different guys not including her cousin. she put her basket down on the floor beside the freezer before climbing in and lazily closing it. every day for twenty seven minutes she would lay in the freezer, leaving her only three minutes to finish setting up anything that was left before the many hours filled of exhaustion and tears began.
when she forgot to set her timer, she only had two minutes left. lidia jumped up and out of the freezer and right onto the basket. "you stupid little shit. why were you in my way? you should've moved!" she exclaimed with a point of her freshly grey painted nail. with such a bad start of the work day, she knew it would continue until her shift was over.
