The sun was rising to sit at the top of the trees. The warriors guarded the outskirts of the clearing we stumbled upon. Suddenly, a sweet, beautiful scent filled my nose.

mate...Mate...MATE!

'Oliver, my mate is here.'

Liam froze, his snout pointed towards the woods.

'So is mine.'

Oliver shifted and I followed suit. The rest of the warriors stayed in their wolf form, keeping their guard up.

Then Oliver growled,

'Rogue.'

I stood next to him, smelling it as well. It was a little hard to focus on that scent while my own mate's was growing stronger.

Jared had stopped shouting "mate" but he was still pacing with anticipation.

Running footsteps were heard till they completely stopped. The warriors made a gap with a simple command. Then emerged a figure. It ran straight for Oliver and embraced him.

It was Gavi! Oh, how I have missed her. But a rogue is still around here somewhere.

The rogue emerged from the brush. She had tangled, white hair, ragged brown clothes with a small satchel, and beautiful, bright blue eyes. She looked quite malnourished and tired.

MATE...MATE...MATE!!

My heart filled with happiness and joy upon seeing my mate but then was replaced by anger. Who would deprive my mate of her basic needs!?

She froze as I did, upon meeting my gaze.

She is so beautiful.

I know right?

Apparently, I was not the only one who saw my mate, Oliver pushed Gavi behind him and growled at my mate. My mate tore her gaze from me to look at Oliver.

"Begone, rogue, " Oliver commanded, his words like venom off his tongue.

She shrunk and started shaking. She looked between him and my shocked face. Why would Oliver be so mean to an obvious, innocent rogue?

She just stood there and kept shaking.

"I said leave!" Oliver crouched low, ready to pounce. "Oliver! She is innocent," Gavi was trying to hold him back but it wasn't working.

Go to our mate you idiot.

I snapped out of it and sprinted forward just as Oliver was about to charge. "STOP! I don't care if you are a higher rank, you will not touch my mate!" I growled loudly and embraced my mate.

I enjoyed the sparks that flew through my skin and kissed her head reassuringly, "Mine."

Any thoughts of Day were pushed from my mind and it was suddenly just me and my mate. She blushed and snuggled into my neck. My wolf purred at the instant acceptance and touch.

'I'm sorry, Gavin.'

'It's okay. You didn't know.'

Maybe I should stop calling my mate "my mate". I pulled away from my mate, "What's your name?"

Curiously, she pulled out a whiteboard and started to scribble. What would she need a whiteboard for?

Villa.

"Vee-luh?" I gently rested my arms around her waist and my head on her shoulder.

"It's Vee-yuh." I looked up to see Gavi, smiling.

"Gavi!" I ran to her embracing her. I missed her so much and was so worried.

"I've missed you so much!"

"Me too, Gavin."

Jared whimpered slightly at the loss of contact from our mate but that wouldn't last long because Gavi was taken from me.

"Mine." Oliver growled.

I smiled and held my hands up in surrender. My two best friends, mates, ain't that something.

I chuckled to myself and stood in front of Villa. Her smile returned once more.

She is so beautiful.

I smiled and wrapped my arms around her waist. But, this time she winced.

My eyes immediately shot to her side. I walked behind her and gently lifted her shirt.

An array of long, deep gashes decorated her back. Dark blue stained her back, contrasting her creamy pale skin.

Jared clawed his way to the surface, causing my eyes to darken in rage.

I started shaking.

I knew I couldn't stop him.

I just let him go.

Jared took over, his eyes black and empty, his face angry and harsh.

He shifted and let his anger out. He tore down trees and ripped them to pieces. His growls echoed through the forest.

He then ran to Villa. She was trembling and her head was hung low she seemed, scared. My mate should never be scared of me.

Jared shifted again and embraced her.

He kept inhaling her scent then finally let me take over.

I could feel Villa's guilt through our bond. She took her shaking hands and lifted my head. Tears were gently streaming down my face. How could I scare her like that!? I should have fought Jared off.

She gently stroked my cheek as we kept our eyes locked.

"I'm so sorry, " I choked, closing my eyes.

She gently pulled my head down so our foreheads touched. I hope that means she forgives me.
