The round moon was hanging low and stars had filled the sky. At the end of the Mayo river, a black-haired brown-eyed youth leaned on the side of a rock. Both his eyes were calm yet cold as he stared at nothing with a distant look in his eyes. Three years—it has been three years since it happened. Three years since he never missed coming to this one spot for years.

Fryer remembered her smile as if he had seen it just moments ago. The feel of her soft skin against his palm as he caressed her cheek. He remembered that beautiful girl who looked more like a goddess than a human—than a werewolf. But she was cold and was bleeding in red. If only he had reached her in time, if only he had got here in time, then his mate would still be alive.

He called her Aashi since he didn't even know what her name was—wasn't able to find out later either because he didn't know how she got here or how she ended up in that state. All he knew was that she had washed to pack land through the river.

It's been three years since he searched for the answers for that gruesome death of his lover. That one person who would have lived her whole life with him yet here he was alone and lonely and left with nothing but a small memory of her smile.

Aashi!

He could imagine how much of a beautiful life the two could have lived-if only...

He looked to his left where one of his man—his closest friend was standing.

"Alpha Fryer!" Felix bowed half in respect and only stood back when Fryer gestured him to. "Another shredded body of a woman was found outside the northern border"

Fryer sighed and got up. This was the sixth body this month, again a woman.

"How bad?" Fryer asked the one question whose answer was quite obvious.

"The internal organs are gutted out and the face has been mutilated severely. We can't identify this person as well"

"Burn the body," Fryer commanded and looked up at the sky. Again, that distant look took over his face.

Felix didn't say a thing, he didn't question his command because he knew these words were too heavy for him. He felt sorry for his friend as he was the only one who knew what he has gone through. Felix didn't need Fryer to tell who that woman was to him to know the answer.
