Chapter 34

We all sat around the study waiting for Sebastian. I heard him pull up and went outside to meet him. He gave me a big smile and pulled me into a hug. "Good to see you back to normal, though I rather liked you like that; except for the blood part. Not cool, Sash," he winked at me, pulling me into a hug. I wrapped my arms around him and leaned into him fully, settling my head against his shoulder. "Thanks for helping find me the other night," I said. "And sorry about the blood. Out of my control." He laid his head on top of mine for a minute, still hugging me to him. "Well, I've got some interesting news to share with you guys," he said.

I pulled back and held his hand as we walked into the manor together. I led him to the study and he greeted the brothers. Sebastian sat on the edge of the couch, leaning on his knees with his elbows. I felt nervous for some reason and chose to remain standing, as I waited for what he had to say. "We ran the samples. A particular associate of mine who is familiar with our world did the work. It turns out that the syringes were loaded with a mixture of Templar poison and werewolf venom; they were mixed in different quantities depending on the desired effect. There were syringes with straight poison that would kill, all the way to ones that were mostly werewolf venom with a little of the poison.

"The more the poison the longer and deeper you would go; the more the werewolf venom the shorter and higher you would go. It just depends on the mixture. Sasha obviously got stuck with a syringe that had ample amounts of werewolf venom and a little of the poison. The two work together to create the effect. For example the dose Sasha got only created the high through the venom because the poison first allowed her system to absorb it. It broke through her natural healing abilities to allow the venom to affect her but in a less-serious manner. The mixtures with more poison open up the effect to be taken deeper which is why it lasts longer but is also why it creates a deeper effect on the mind; like what the rogue was using on Sasha when he kidnapped her.

"The last syringe he used on her was as close a mixture as you could take without dropping a vampire instantly. It almost killed her because of the previous dosings she had received from him," Sebastian finished, looking up at me. "Is there anything else?" Nicolae asked. Sebastian shook his head saying, "Until we find the source, no. My guess is that they just created a new market for this. How they got ahold of the Templar poison is a mystery. My guess would be the venom may have even come from your rogue, but I have no way of really knowing. Sasha, you know where to find the associate?" Sebastian asked me.

"Yes, but it will take some time to locate the exact place, all I got was an image, not directions," I laughed as I looked at him. He smiled at me and stood. I nodded my thanks and sighed, "In the meantime, I need to get back to hunting Templars to keep Viktor appeased. Maybe I can do some snooping and see what I can find out about how our pushers got their hands on the poison in the first place. Either way, I have to get back to hunting. Excuse me, I have to go give Viktor a call." I stepped out of the room and walked to my room picking up the cellphone that was on the nightstand there. He picked up almost instantly as usual.

"Feeling better, my pet?" "I'm back to normal, Viktor, don't worry. I'll be heading back out again tonight to start hooking more Templars, if that pleases you?" "Good. All of this werewolf and poison nonsense has distracted you from dealing with the main problems going on. Any news on that front?" "I'll be working to track down the samples and their source. They were Templar poison as we thought," I said. For some reason I couldn't bring myself to tell him that werewolf venom was involved; I couldn't put my finger on exactly why it mattered but for some reason my intuition told me to keep that part of the revelation hidden from him.

"Good but stay focused on the Templars. Report back to me when you're finished tonight. How are things with Lorie and the nanny?" "Lorie and I have come to," I paused trying to think of the right thing to say, "an understanding. Things have become more peaceful around here between the two of them because of it. She rather enjoys stories of your conquests as bedtime stories." He actually laughed in enjoyment. He always had appreciated Lorie's tenacity and I knew telling him that I was using his horror stories as her bedtime stories would please him. "Ahh, my minx, I miss you at my side."
