~ 9:55 PM BONFIRE NIGHT ~

Who the hell was Carter? My mother looked up at the windows as if trying to remember her past memories.

"Who the freak is Carter?" I almost yelled.

"From the moment I saw him at the age of eighteen, I loved him. Trust me, growing up I didn't believe in love at first sight but that day I was a victim of it." She began smiling. "Carter and I were inseparable. But our love rose suspicion within the town, many thought we were True Mates."

"True mates? You've told me stories when I was a child about two wolves who were blessed by the Goddess to be together." I squinted my eyes.

"Yes, I thought we were but we weren't. Well, at least I thought we weren't.. You see, Carter was human. He was unaware of our way of life. I stupidly fell head over heels for him and smuggled him into our territory. That night I lost my virginity to him." She looked up at me and I urged her to continue.

"And your grandfather found out and shamed us. But that same night, a bunch of rouges attacked us and as a result, he lost his life when they crossed the border." She sniffled, grabbing the handkerchief from my hands. "But then he was gone. And we never found his body. Because we Mated, without the blessing of your grandparents, it never had an effect on my fertility and ability to remate." She continued.

I shook my head in disbelief.

True Mates was a childish myth.

"Darling, I'm not saying that you and Alpha Cyrus are True Mates, all I'm saying is that the feelings you've developed for him can't be ignored. This is beyond young love; your wolf and his wolf desire each other. If you ignore these feelings, they will only grow and you'll lose complete control." My mother explained. "Just look after yourself, Nevaeh. And don't do anything stupid, like I did." She got up, I got up with her and gave her a hug.

"I love you mum" I sighed.

"I love you more, come, let's go back and let's hope they haven't killed each other yet."

"Does father know..about you and Carter?" I asked her and she nodded.

"He was really understanding and since Carter was human, I didn't bare his mark" She explained and I nodded.

When we got back to the boardroom, Sierra and Cyrus were nowhere to be found. My father stood beside the large windows staring off into the distance. My mother approached him and whispered into his ear. He glanced over at me and smiled apologetically.

Logan got up from his seat immediately and walked up to me. He looked at me for a moment then pulled the scarf from around my neck and I gasped in response.

His hazel eyes fixated on the slowly healing and disappearing mark.

"I can explain" I began.

He shook his head.

"No, I understand." He replied, cutting me off.

"Logan.. this isn't exactly how it looks," I tried to explain.

"Don't bother, I know where I stand now, I wish the two of you the best." He said and pulled me into a hug. I was shocked. It took a moment to register that Alpha Logan had been calm. Too calm. He pulled away and placed a kiss on my cheek.

"Goodbye Nevaeh" and He went on his leave.

My father came up to me next and pulled me into a hug.

"You're really staying with this man?" He asked into my neck and I slowly nodded. "If that's what you want, then I'll support you." He replied, releasing me.
