I don't know what happens in family court so bear with me here. I did as much research as I could but some stuff may be wrong.

Italics are flashbacks.

"Connie and Richard Hoying custody battle?"

"Yes."

"Richard, you're requesting full custody and to take away Connie's parental rights of your son, Scott. Can you tell me why?"

"Scott came out to us as gay when he was 14. Connie didn't accept him and was abusive toward him. I can't have her trying to do that again."

"...I'm gay."

"Get to your room and think about how much of a disappointment you are. Go! I don't ever want to hear those words again!" Scott runs upstairs and slams the door behind him, tears streaming down his face.

"Connie, you're trying to keep it 50/50 custody. Why?"

"I don't want my son to be taken away from me. I love him very much and Scott needs his mother in his life."

Connie looks at Mitch, "You don't love Scott, no one can, he's unloveable. Not even a mother could love that."

"Let's start by talking about your financial statuses. Richard, what do you do for a career?"

"I'm the Chief of Surgery at Dignity Health Hospital."

"What are your hours?"

"I leave at 6:45 in the morning and I'm home for dinner almost every night."

"Do you see Scott in the mornings?"

"I do. He comes downstairs at 6:15, so we can hang out a little before I leave."

"You said you're home almost every night for dinner. How often are you not home?"

"Once or twice a month. I always tell Scott when I won't be home, so he can figure out something to do."

"Alright. Connie, what do you do for a living?"

"I'm a high school teacher."

"Do you teach where Scott goes to school?"

"No, I teach at a private school."

"How often do you see Scott?"

"I try to see him at least on the weekends and I talk to him everyday." Scott shakes his head and looks down.

"If you weren't gay, your sister wouldn't have ran out and died! She's dead and it's your fault, I never want to see your worthless face again!"

The judge sees this, "Scott? Scott? Is that not true?" Scott is pulled out of his thoughts and shakes his head as tears gather in his eyes.

"No, she's lying."

"About?"

"Everything she's said so far, really. How much do you want to know?"

"As much as you're willing to tell me."

"Like my dad said, I came out when I was 14 and Connie started to be abusive and made me feel like I was worthless every second of my life. Then she disowned me and left almost a year later, after my dad filed for divorce. I didn't have any contact with her until June when she found my number and called me. She came to my house and tried to make me break up with my boyfriend and when I said no, she tried to convince me that he doesn't love me and that I'm unlovable."

"Scott, you prefer to live with your dad?"

"I do. I was diagnosed with depression when I was living with Connie and I went to the point of harming myself. I was clean for a long time until she wouldn't stop texting me horrible things and I relapsed. And I couldn't block her because that was against the 50/50 thing and I didn't want my dad to get in trouble."

"Your Honor, none of this is true. I assure you, I love Scott with every fiber in me and I want what's best for him." Connie jumps in.

"You killed her and I'm never going to let you forget it. It should've been you. You should have been killed, not her! I wish you were dead!"

That. That is what broke Scott. Tears stream down Scott's face and he turns to Connie.

"Bullshit! You hate me! And I hate you! I don't want you anywhere near me and I swear to god I will get a restraining order. You blamed me for Lindsay's death and you wished me dead!"

"I did no such thing."

"You killed her."

"Yes you did! You made my life hell!"

"It should've been you."

"I tried to love you and raise you as much as I could."

"You should have been killed, not her!"

"You constantly blamed me for her death! You blamed me more than you blamed the truck driver!" Scott's voice breaks and he looks down, his body shaking with sobs.

"I wish you were dead!"

"I wish you were dead!"

"I wish you were dead!"

"Stop! Stop! Stop!" Scott collapses to his knees as he pulls on his hair, trying to stop the words that keep replaying in his mind.

"I wish you were dead!"

"I wish you were dead!"

Rick tries to calm Scott down to no avail. "Mitch, help him, please." Occhi brings Mitch to Scott and Mitch kneels down in front of him, grabbing his hands and holding them in his own. He kisses Scott's hands before letting them go and pulling Scott's head into his chest, the blond wrapping his arms around Mitch's torso as he sobs into the smaller boy's chest.

"It's not real, Scotty. It's not real. It's over, baby." Mitch continues to whisper into Scott's ear until he calms down.

"I grant Richard full custody and I am terminating all of Connie's parental rights." The judge bangs the gavel and the boys stand up, Scott standing behind Mitch and Rick when Connie passes them.

"Let's go home, yeah?"

"Yeah." Scott whispers they get in the car and drive home.
