It's the first day of the new school year, I'm so excited. I love school, and I have a really good feeling about this year. Something wonderful is going to happen; I just know it.
My dad drops me off like he does every year, and I go to the middle school lunch room, all three schools are on the same property, and the high school doesn't provide breakfast, but the middle school does. Plus it gives me a chance to talk to my friend Juliet.
"Hey, Juliet. How's it going?" I asked. "I haven't seen you since I gave you your birthday preset early."
"Great. I've mostly been swimming and reading, and don't forget writing," she replied.
"Yeah, here's the binder. It's your turn. Do you think we should continue our week by week writing, or go back to day by day?"
"I liked passing it back every week. It gives us time to write more."
"Okay," I replied.
I ate my breakfast and we talked about nothing in particular. Once I was done eating, we walked outside to talk about things we don't want others to know.
"So, have you heard anything from the gods yet?" Juliet asked me.
"Nothing. I was sure they'd answer by now."
"I haven't heard anything yet either. I wish they'd at least say oipho off, you're not demigods. I hope they don't, but at least they will have answered."
"Well I better run. While Hera's away?"
"Zeus will play, bye Jess."
I ran off to put my backpack away before running to my home room. I thankfully only have Mrs. Paracheck for home room, but I still hated being near her. There just was something wrong with her. She passed out our schedules, and showed us the beginning of the year slide show, then we were released. First class of the day was English with Mrs. Chovan. I heard that she's a great teacher, so I was excited to be in her class. As I was headed there I ran into a boy I had never met before.
The boy had shaggy black hair and deep obsidian eyes. His skin was pale as death, and to complete the look he wore all black. He reminded me of Nico di Angelo from Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
"Sorry about that," the boy said.
"It's all right," I replied. "Are you new here?"
"Yeah, is it obvious?"
"Uh, huh. I've never seen you before. What's your name?"
"I'm Nico. What about you?"
"I'm Jessica. It's a pleasure to meet you Nico."
"Likewise. Can you help me find where I'm supposed to be?"
"Sure." I took a look at his schedule. "Oh, I'm headed there myself. Follow me."
On the way to class I looked over the rest of his schedule, and it was exactly the same as mine.
"Looks like I can show you around all day." I said.
"What do you mean?"
I handed him my schedule, and the first thing he said was, "Freaky." Then he whispered to himself, "I swear either Athena or Aphrodite have something to do with this."
"More likely Aphrodite," I said. "She would have known I'd be kind to the new kid." I had had to stop myself before I said attracted to because I was attracted to him in a way I've never been attracted to a boy before.
"I don't know. You know about the Greek gods!?"
"Yeah." I would have finished, but we had reached the classroom. I introduced Nico to Mrs. Chovan, and we took seats at the front of the class.
As Chovan explained the rules of the classroom, I kept looking over at Nico. I couldn't help it; Nico was just so hot. I bet he'd have a girlfriend here faster than I could say Supercalifragilisticexpialadocious. I was just a plain girl, he wouldn't want me.
Once or twice when I glanced at Nico, I saw him looking over at me, but I figured it was just my imagination. Like I said I'm nothing worth looking at. My dark reddish brown hair was back in a pony tail, and my brown eyes were dull and covered by my glasses. I was wearing a pair of carpenter jeans for girls, and a plain blue T-shirt with a white all lace-like top shirt. I wore my Hades necklace and my Poseidon necklace both were yarn necklaces one all black, Hades, and the other blue and green with a suckish green yarn Trident charm. I had a little makeup on, but it wasn't enough to cover my ever present acne. I was nothing to look at. Well maybe my oversized breasts were, but nothing else.
