Over the past days, I noticed that something had changed with Valerie. She started dressing more sexier now and she had recently gotten a new hairstyle. It was pretty obvious that it was an attempt to look young again, which did not fail. Valerie had always been beautiful, that I couldn't deny. That was how she made her way in the world. She worked hard to look good. But now she had been working harder than the devil and I knew the reason why.

"God, Mom, I really love your new look." Ate said as they sat on the living room couch with their glass of wine. She, Kuya Coco and her kids would always drop by on weekends. Although their house was just a couple of street away from ours, they still make it a point to spend some family time with us and the Cordovas.

"Venus and I went to this new hair salon. Kaya ito, nagpa-perm na din ako." She said, twirling her fingers in a strand of loose curl that fell on her face and a fringe to match. "Does it look good on me?"

"Super. It makes you look younger and sexier." Ate smiled, teasingly. "And I like your new outfit. I've never seen you wear something like that in ages."

My eyes lowered to Valerie's body. She was wearing something that a woman my age would wear. It was a peach summer clasp halter dress with a v-neckline that ended mid-thighs. Even with three kids, Valerie still had her curves in all the right places.

"Well, I figured all the strict diet and excercise with coach Kelly are finally working. I lost an inch off my waist kaya naisip kong magpalit na ng wardrobe." She answered before taking a sip from her wine glass.

"Why the sudden change, Mom? Who are you trying to impress?" One corner of my lips curled up. I wasn't sure if they'd sense the mocking in my tone.

"Sino pa ba? Of course, it's for Dad." Ate rolled her eyes, still smiling. "Are you not taking the hint, Dad?"

"Huh?" Dad was on the other couch with Pixie cuddled to his side as she watches cartoons on the tv. Cookie and Toffie were doing God-knows-what with Kuya Coco in the backyard.

Dad had sunken further into the depths of misery. Hindi man siya magsalita, I could tell from how withdrawn he had been lately. Kahit ngayong kumpleto kami at kasama niya sina Pixie. It felt as though he was far away. He just hadn't been the same.

"It's time for another honeymoon, don't you think so?" Ate giggled. "Ilabas mo naman si Mom o hindi kaya mag out of country trip kayo. Ako na ang bahala kay Toffie at kay Bryce."

The awkwardness was palpable as Dad just stared at Ate. She had no idea what was happening with our family. She had not a single clue that our mother was having an affair with a man the same age as her. Gusto kong isigaw sa kanya kung anu ang pinaggagawa ng ina niya but I made a promise to Dad.

"Ikaw talaga. Your Dad's been very busy with the company." Sabi naman ni Mom.

And you've been very busy with Vito. I bit my tongue to keep the words from coming out of my mouth.

Hindi na kumibo pa si Dad. Nagtama ang mga mata namin, he had probably seen the spite in my eyes and gave me a warning look. Then he pretended to shift his attention back to the tv. I felt sorry for Dad and mad at him at the same time for allowing this to happen. For not doing anything at all while his wife sees a younger man. Vito was still in Manila and they were to see each other tomorrow. I had pried into my Mom's phone earlier when she was busy with the kids and skimmed through the messages. The past messages were deleted and only today's message was recorded in her phone. If there was really nothing to see, why would she delete their past conversation? Of course, I did not tell Dad what I had seen. He was already in a fragile state. Ayaw kong madagdagan pa lalo ang bigat na dinadala niya.
