Carrie looked at the paper. "Who is this?" She walked into the living room. "Maud," she whispered. 'Maud, wake up!" He opens one eye slowly. 'Ugh, what?" "I found this note in the kitchen," she whispered into his ear. "What does it say," he asked.
She took the paper from her pocket. "Carla Evans." "Isn't that the person who made the law firm on the other side of town," he said. She took out her phone and searched her up. "Yeah it is. I wonder how I can meet her." Maud takes out his phone and searched her up. "It says that you can meet her at her 12th annual Dinner party tomorrow night."
"Perfect," she replies. "Help me find my nicest dress. And try to find good clothes. We're going to that dinner party." Maud stands up and walks over to the closet. "Let's see. What about the one you wore for prom?. "Nah," she says. "That's still dirty.
"What about this one," he says as he slides into the living room. "My old party dress," she says. "No chance, the last time I wore that I got soda all over the front of it." He turns around and pulls out a bag that you get when you do dry cleaning. "What about your fancy dress." "Ok," she says. "And it has a name. It is called a ummm. I forgot."
He takes the dress and puts it on the railing. "I'll go get my dress shirt and pants," he says. He runs upstairs and opens the closet door. She hears shuffling and banging. At last, he runs down with his work clothes and a pair of loafers. "Where did you get those?" she asks.
He drops the clothes on the table. "When I went to an interview for that job in the city." He goes into the bathroom and puts on the clothes. He walks out dressed. "What do you think?" She gets up and looks at him. "Not bad. But, it could be better." "What do you mean?"
"Well," she started. "For one, you could add a tie. And a Fedora. Or just go with what you have now." He goes into the hall and tries the lights. Nothing. "Carrie we need to get ready for tomorrow," Maud whines. "Come on go upstairs and try stuff on." She goes upstairs and starts to try on clothes.
She gets about an hour in before she starts feeling drowsy. She curls up on the bed and drifts into a black void.

The next morning she woke up in cold sweat. She looked around the room and saw her dress on the door handle. "Where is he?" she said. She went downstairs and got breakfast. She saw a note on the table from Maud. Getting food from the store. Be back soon. -Maud.
"We do need food," she says. She walks over to the cupboard and looks inside. Almost nothing. She pours the cereal. "STORM!," she yells. 'COME HERE SWEETIE!" She hears whimpering in the basement. "I forgot to let her back in," she said to herself.
She goes to the basement and gets Storm. She starts to whimper. "I am so sorry Storm," she whispers. "I'll get you food." She runs over to the food bag and scoops out food for her. Storm plunges her head into the food and in less than three minutes she finished it.
She walks over to the phone and calls Maud. RING! RING! RING! Maud picks up after the third ring. "Hey Carrie," he says. 'I'm about five minutes out." "Ok," she replies. "See you soon. Oh, make sure that you are ready to go for tonight ok?" She hears horns honk and Maud curse under his breath. "Got it. Some idiot in front of me just got out of his car and is standing in the middle of the road."
"Why?" she asks. "I don't know," he says. "The light just turned green. I'll be home in a minute." She hangs up and sis down in the living room. DING-DONG! She gets up and opens the door. "Hey Carrie," Maud says.
"That wasn't too long Maud," she said. "Come in. Hurry, get ready."

6 o'clock. 6 o'clock and Maud still isn't ready. "Where is he," she asked herself. BARK! Storm just from down the stairs and on her tail is Maud. "Sorry I'm late," he gasps. "I was chasing Storm.
Storm looks up and growls at him. "Why is Storm being so hostile around you?" she wonders out loud. Maud rips his ie out of Storm's mouth. 'I don't know. Maybe she just doesn't like cologne."
"Maud," she snaps. 'Stop using the cologne. I just bought it for you. FOR WORK! Remember, find out why the gun in my basement had her name on it. Look for anything out of the ordinary at her part. Ok, Maud?" He looks up from his tie. 'Yes, sir!" "Stop joking around," she says.
Maud salutes her and runs outside to the car. She follows. But, so does Storm. "No," she says. "You can't come with us." She takes her to the makeshift crate and locks her in it. "Now behave Storm. Or no rawhides after I get back."
She walks down the hallway and out the door. She carefully steps down the stairs and runs to the car. She gets into the passenger side seat and buckles herself in. As Maud pulls out she looks back at the house.
"Maud," she asks. "Do you know where to go?" he pulls out his phone and opens GPS. He puts in the address and sets the phone into the dashboard case. "Oh come on," she says. " Now do you know where we are going?
He looks over at her with a goofy grin. "Yes, I do."

An hour later the arrive at the party. A well dressed boy walks up to the with his hand out. Carrie takes out her keys and gives them do him. "Park it on the side." The boy nods and gets into the car.
As the car drives off they walk into the house. The opens the enormous front doors to a golden-lit room. A symphony was playing and a seemingly endless table was set with a 3-course meal.
She puts her coat on the coat rack and walks up to the table."Hello," says a woman behind her. She turns around to see and tall woman with crop but hair and a white sleeveless dress. "Hi," she says. "What is your name?" "Carrie Stein," she says. "Are you Carle Evans?" Oh no," the woman says. "My name is Sherri Colbert. I'm Mrs.Evan's planner." "Oh," Carrie says. "Do you know where I could meet her?
Sherri turns around and looks all over the room. " Mrs.Evans must be in the main hall." Carrie thanks her and walks toward the tall doors on the right. As she walks through the long hallway she sees oil painted pictures of people on the wall.
"Like those,' someone behind her says. Carrie turns around and sees a short woman with black hair and a blood-red dress was standing behind her. "Yes," she replies. " Are you Carla Evans?" The woman walks up to her. "Yes. Why?" Carrie tells her about the gun and how she came to be here.
"I see," she says. "Do I know you?" Carrie shakes her head. "No. I just came here because of the note in the gun I found." She takes out a notepad. "Well can I get your name?" "Yeah," she says. "Carrie Stein." She drops the pen and notebook. "Stein?" she says shakily. "Yes," Carrie says. "Is that a problem or something?"
She nods her head. "Yes. I once knew a Jonah and Addison Stein." "Those are my parents," she says. "Did you know them?" "Yes," Carla says. "They were close friends of mine. I knew they had a kid, but not who he or she was." Carrie walks towards the doors. "So, what you are telling me, is that you, Carla Evans, knew my PARENTS?!" She nods.
"They told me to help their kid if they needed it. They left town later that week. I heard that they were somewhere in wild Falmouth." Carrie whips her head around. "You mean the crime boss section of town? Why would they go there?" Carla walks up to her. "I don't know sweetie. Maybe you should go ask them?"
"I will."
