Two; Meeting Jessica

"Hi! This is Baby Bugs. Jessica speaking. How may I help you?" She sounded very energetic and fun, making me giggle. I shook my head and tried to remember the task at hand.

"My sister needs a babysitter." I rushed out.

"Um, I'm sorry. This is a daycare, sweetheart. Would you still be interested?" I tried to tell her yes, but it came out as incoherent sentences.

"What was that ma'am?"

"Abacababasu UGH!" I yelled at myself for sounding so stupid. They are going to fucking call protective services at this rate.

"Oh! I'm sorry, but I didn't catch your name, sweetheart." She sounded like something clicked in her head.

"Sophia Marcks." I groaned and she laughed.

"Okay, Miss Sophie. How about you come in at some point before eight tonight, ask for Jessica, and we will talk about your options? Hm?" Thank God, I don't think that she thinks I'm crazy.

"Yeah. Thank you. I'll be there soon." I hung up. It is only five thirty. I was still dressed too. I jogged to the car and made my way to the daycare. When I walked in, it was a cute place. It made me super excited, and I pinched my wrist to make myself act right. The walls were a pastel blue and there were different little stations with different toys. Three hallways were behind one toddler gate and they were all different calm colors. Kids were spread out playing in different pins, while some napped or were fed by employees. A dirty blonde woman walked up to me in a light pink uniform shirt that said "Baby Bugs" and a pair of dark blue, skinny jeans.

"I'm Carly. How may I help you, Ma'am?" My tongue felt dead in my mouth, and I quickly bit it to remind it to be mature.

"I need to s-see Jessica."

"Ah. You must be Sophia. She is down the green hallway, the third door. Do you need someone to walk you?" I shook my head and smiled at the woman. When I got to the door, I wasn't sure why I was so nervous, but I slowly lifted my hand to knock. My wrist wouldn't move when it got up there. I couldn't knock. I couldn't move. Not long after, Carly walked up to me, smirking.

"Do you need help, ma'am?" She asked politely.

"N-no. Just give m-me a moment please." I felt like I was about to have a panic attack.

"For what, Miss? Me and Jessica are lately very close friends. She is quite friendly and excited to meet you. Come on." She opened the door and pulled me inside by my wrist.

"Here she is, Jess. She seems to be shy. Remember what we discussed." She made a pointed face at the Jessica woman who rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, yeah. Go." She laughed at her friend who smirked, leaving, while I just awkwardly stood against the wall. I didn't know how to reply to anything. The woman was sitting behind a desk with baby wipes, a bottle, diapers, baby formula, and a few stuffed animals on it. One wall had a sink, trash can, what I think was a changing table and a counter. The other wall had a small sofa, a box of toys, and a crib that looked like it would hold about six babies or one fully grown adult. The wall behind her had a painting, a hanging rack with a couple pacifiers, a few bibs, and something else that I wasn't sure what was, along with a few cubbies with folded clothes in them. She walked to the couch and motioned me over.

"Come sit down, cutie." I just stared for a minute. I couldn't move.

"Are you okay, Sophia?" She walked over to me. I didn't move besides a quick nod.

"Are you sure?" I did the same choppy nod.

"Why don't you sit down, so we can talk?" She spoke gently as if she was testing the waters. I shook my head. She made a confused face.

"Well, okay. How old is your sister?" Shit. I don't remember. I suddenly shifted as warm liquid ran down my leg.
