Chapter Eleven

My days were happier after the talk with Sean. He was being extra sweet to me, buying me lunch and taking me out for dinner, and always surprising me with flowers and chocolates, until people in the office were starting to notice something going on between us. He hadn’t been out with any other girl for more than a month now. I was starting to trust him more now.

“Sean, I’m trying to do my work now,” I said, as I heard a knock on my office door as someone opened it.

“Err…sorry to be a bother,” I looked up from my paperwork to look into Mr. Jared’s eyes. What is he doing here? I thought it was Sean, because he had come to my office almost five times, asking me to join him for dinner today, but I said I had other plans. I wanted some time to myself, so I told him I had other things to do. I actually wanted to do a little cleaning in my apartment.

“Oh, Mr. Jared,” I exclaimed, “Can I help you?”

“If you’re busy, I’ll just come back another time,” he said.

“Oh, no, I’m not that busy,” I said, as he entered my office, “I just thought it was my friend.”

“Yeah, Sean, right,” he said, as he sat in front of me.

“Yes he kept on knocking on my door today, so I thought it was him when you knocked too,” I explained, feeling nervous that Mr. Jared and me are talking like buddies.

“So are you and Sean…?” he asked as I rounded my eyes.

“Me and Sean?” I asked as I shook my head and laughed, “No, we’re best friends.”

“Oh,” Mr. Jared said as he smiled nervously. What’s going on with him?, “I thought you guys were an item or something.”

“Oh, we’re just friends,” I said as he nodded his head.

“Good thing too,” he said, as I looked at him weirdly, “Or it would have been awkward for me.”

                “Awkward?” I repeated, “I’m afraid I don’t understand.”

“Actually I needed your help,” he said, nervously clearing his throat. What help does he need? “I’m going for a friend’s wedding next week and I don’t have a proper outfit to wear. I was thinking of getting some new clothes and I needed a second opinion.”

“Okay,” I said slowly nodding my head. Is this what I think it is?

“So I was wondering if you could help me to find some new clothes,” he asked as I blinked at him.

“Huh?” I asked. Is he asking me out on a date?

“I mean, it’s not that I’m asking you out or anything,” he said, scratching his head, “I was wondering if you could help me, as a friend.”

“Help you to buy new clothes?” I asked him, trying to understand what he meant, “With my own money?”

“Of course with my own money,” he said, chuckling, “I just needed someone else’s opinion and I thought about you. But if you can’t, it’s okay, I understand.”
