I do not own these characters, I just write them as a way to love and care for them.
Standing in the bathroom, looking in the softly lit mirror, Y/N took her time curling her hair as she smiled to herself. The faint and sporadic humming coming from the shower just a few feet away never failed to be adorable, even after all these years.
"Babe?" he called out over the top of the shower door, his voice echoing overtop of the water droplets splashing off every surface around him, "What time do we need to leave?"
"You have fifteen minutes," she answered, holding back a grin.
Seconds later, the water was turned off and Steve was wrapping a towel around his waist in front of the shower door, dripping beads of water onto the shower rug as he dried off.
"I'm almost ready," she sighed playfully, tugging at a stubborn section of hair.
Steve stepped behind her and slipped his arms around her waist, laying his hands flat on her stomach. "You look beautiful," he said soothingly beside her ear before planting a light kiss to her neck.
"Thanks," she smiled, leaning her head back on his chest. "You look pretty good yourself there." The feel of his warm arms wrapped around her and the clean smell of his skin made her want to stop getting ready and give in to temptation.
"Too bad we have to leave so soon," he said lightheartedly, rubbing his hands on her stomach.
She closed her eyes and nuzzled her face towards his neck. "You know there's nothing in there anymore..."
"Sorry, I... I'm sorry," Steve whispered. He'd gotten in the habit of resting his palms on her stomach when she was pregnant and, apparently, it was a hard habit to break.
"There's nothing to apologize for. I got used to it, too."
He kissed her cheek. "Let me brush my teeth and then I'm ready."
She nodded before stepping back in front of the mirror and applying a coat of hairspray. "I'm going to start getting dressed..."
Standing in front of the sink alone, he thought back half a year ago to a discussion he'd had with Y/N. He'd been talking about how much he couldn't wait for the baby to come and she'd jokingly reminded him that, at some point, they would need a night out alone again. She was so pregnant at that point and they knew it was the last time they were going out on the town for awhile. Finding himself staring in the mirror, remembering how round her belly was and how beautiful she looked, he got a bit misty-eyed. That time had passed so quickly.
Walking through the bedroom to her closet, she smiled at Steve's tuxedo, laying flat on the bed. Her silvery gray ball gown was hung in the closet with care. After slipping it on, she zipped it as far up as she could reach and stepped out of the closet with her high heels in her hands.
Steve, who was walking out of the bathroom, stopped dead in his tracks and began walking towards her. She turned to show him the open zipper. "Can you get this, babe?"
"Which direction?" he laughed.
"Tell you what," she grinned, "you can help out by moving it south later tonight."
"Good deal," he said, pulling the zipper up.
"Oh, I almost forgot," she turned to the closet, reaching out for her earrings and bracelets. Tilting her head to put an earring on, she caught him watching her. "You know... maybe I should wait for you out in the living room," she grinned. "Chop, chop," she laughed as she walked out of the bedroom.
"Five minutes, I promise," he called after her.
