It wasn't long before Mitch and I fell back into our couple-like personality. I found an apartment close to his home and that resulted in us hanging out almost everyday and I was more than okay with that.
I would be lying if I said the idea of not knowing whether or not Wesley was mine didn't bother me, but I wasn't going to push Mitch into getting a DNA test if he wasn't ready for it yet. As crazy as it sounded, if Mitch and I didn't work out and Wesley wasn't my son, I would still love to be apart his life as much as Mitch would let me.
But, if I'm being honest, I'm really, really hoping that Wesley is mine. He's such an incredible little kid that just being around him and Mitch made me happier than I've ever been.
Plus we'd make a cute ass family.
"Hey Wes!" I smiled when the two year old ran up to me, Mitch close behind with their shopping bags. Mitch and I decided to meet up at the mall for lunch and I couldn't help but grin at the sight of his cute little dimpled smile and Wesley's matching one. "What's up, little man?" I picked him up and greeted Mitch with a hug and a kiss to his cheek. "Hey Mitchie. How're you doing?"
"Good thanks," Mitch handed me a small bag once I set Wesley on his feet so he could run around the kids center near to our table.
"What's this?" I asked as we sat down.
"For you," Mitch smiled. "A little gift as my thank you for picking Wes up from day care, yesterday."
"Awe.. you didn't have to get me anything, Mitchie; you know I love hanging out with the little guy,"
"I know," he shrugged, "so I thought this was the perfect gift. Consider it as your 'Welcome Home' gift, too,"
I nodded and opened the bag, gasping when I saw the photo frame packaged neatly. Inside of the frame was a photo of Mitch, Wesley, Kirstie, Kevin and I from the week I came home. It was in Mitch's backyard and I instantly was grinning at the sight of how perfect my family looked.
"Oh my gosh; I love it, Mitchie."
"Really?" He grinned, "I'm glad- Wesley insisted we pick the dinosaur frame,"
I chuckled, admiring the bright blue and green photoframe. "It's perfect; I'll hang it up in my livingroom. Thank you,"
"You're welcome, Scottie," he squeezed my hand over the table and we spent the next half hour talking and hanging out while Wesley ran around and played with his new friends. "How're classes going?" Mitch asked, glancing over.
"Pretty good, actually. I managed to finish with my bachelors a year early-"
"Really? How'd you do that?"
"I took classes over the summer and doubled up on winter holidays," I shrugged. "No biggie," I smiled when Mitch squeezed my hand and told me how proud he was to see me do so well in school. Butterflies erupted inside of me when he kissed my hand.
"I really am proud of you, love,"
"Thank you- that really means the world to me, Mitchie."
"You know I'll always support you, Scottie. How much left do you have of school?"
"Just another two years left at law school before I take my bar exam and pick a firm to go with,"
"Are you nervous?"
"Nah," I shook my head. "I've got a bachelors degree and if law school fails, I'll just get a real estate license and ride out with that,"
"Well Wes and I will be there, cheering you on every step of the way,"
"Thank you. Speaking of Wes," I started, "I know it's pretty obvious that I want a DNA test done between Wesley and I to see if he's my son or not, but I just wanted to let you know that I don't mind waiting."
"Really? I- I want to get a test done, but I just— I've been avoiding it for so long that doing it now- so suddenly, I mean- is still a shell shock for me. I'm sorry,"
"You don't have to apologise for anything, my love," i shook my head. "I'd wait forever for you and this is included. You and Wes have my love and support no matter what. Even if he wasn't my son, I'd treat him like he was and I'd love to be in his life, if you'd let me."
Mitch nodding made me giddy and nearly jump from my seat in excitement. "Of course I want you in his life; he loves you. I love you. You were my first love and I honest to god cannot see myself with anyone but you, Scott. Of course I want us to take things slow, but that doesn't mean that I don't want us to happen. You're my best friend and that will never change,"
He smiled, nodding. "Always."
