Chapter 9: The Baseball Basement

Cheering at the football game was awkward. Did I mention how Tanya joined the cheer team? Her daddy donates big bucks to the school so she paid to join so she could "look hot in the uniform" and cheer Cody on. How lame is that?

So the entire game I had to watch her and Cody make goo-goo eyes at each other. You best believe as soon as the game finished, I wrapped up everything with the team (the duties of a captain are both an honor and a responsibility). As soon as I was done, I was out of there fast.

After I got home, Rolfe came to pick me up to take me to Quinn's house to celebrate their victory. I wish I could have been at Rolfe's game. He said he hit a triple and got three RBIs. I'm not sure what that means but I would have liked to see it.

"Skylar, you look so cute in your cheer uniform," Rolfe kisses my cheek as he guides me to the front door with his hand on the small of my back. I blush. He is so sweet.

Quinn answers the door and shows us to his basement, where everyone is hanging out. Quinn's basement is huge. It's the baseball team's favorite hangout spot. There's a bar with stools, couches, and even ping pong and pool tables. Let's just say Rolfe proceeded to cream me in ping pong all four times we played it. The fifth time he let me win but it was obviously out of pity.

It was at this point that my attention was drawn to the attention-whore entering the room.

"Hey losers!"

What the fuck is Tanya doing here?

"She's Quinn's cousin," Rolfe responds with a confused stare, as if reading my thoughts.

Did I say that out loud?

"Yes," Rolfe chuckles, "I can't believe you didn't know that. Wanna go say hi?"

"Uh, no," I stare at my boyfriend in disbelief. Is he being serious right now? Not only is that bitch dating my ex man, which makes her his current girlfriend's ex-boyfriend's girl, but she is dating the captain of the football team, the sworn enemy of the baseball team.

"Oh come on. Let's be nice."

Rolfe drags me over to say hi and I do so with a smile on my face.

"Well look what the cat dragged in." Tanya eyes me up and down with a look of disgust on her face.

My face feels hot and I look to Rolfe to snap back and defend me. He doesn't though. Instead, he rolls his eyes, completely dismissing the statement. Why isn't he defending me?

"Well hello to you too Tanya..." I mumble.

"You know, loser," Tanya sneers, "Word on the street is you're gonna be kicked of the cheer team."

"What are you getting at, Tanya?"

"You've missed quite a few practices and everyone wants me to be captain."

"That's not even true, you lying slut."

"So what? I can get anything I want and what I want is your title."

I am fuming. Rolfe grabs my hand and pulls me away before I can even say anything.

"Thanks for dragging me away. You don't think she can actually take my position as captain, can she?"

"Nah, don't worry about it, babe."

I try to relax but it's hard knowing Tanya has money and always gets everything she wants.

The so called "small get together celebration" turned out not to be so small. Soon the place became swarming with people. It wasn't a wild party or anything, just crowded. At some point I lost Rolfe amongst the many people taller than I am so I ventured upstairs to where less people were hanging out. Currently I awkwardly sit on the couch in the living room like a lost puppy while taking sips of my beer. I only allow myself one can because I'm the biggest lightweight in the world.
