Cullen stared at the supercomputer's mainframe. It had a blue glow. He listened to the dull whirl of the cooling fans. Do you know what I'm thinking? He asked the supercomputer. Not out loud. The computer can't hear him. Still, with as much computing power as it has, does it know?
Cullen uploaded the game theory modification, as he did with every other update. The supercomputer was his project. The game theory upload will help it determine the most likely outcomes of any given scenario. It can assign a probability to it. The more information it has on a subject, the better it can assess the outcomes. It garners information on a subject from the internet. It can include home address, social media posts, and purchasing habits. Every time someone uses an electronic device, there's record of it. Even social security numbers and emails if you know where to look. It's not hard to get information on someone. For this supercomputer, it's not hard to determine what a person will do.
Cullen's company sold that kind of power from this server room. The selling point for this update? Predictive crime fighting. The authorities can now pre-determine when someone will commit a crime. The supercomputer can assign a probability to it. It can quantify reasonable doubt. Investigators will give a judge a percentage when they ask for arrest warrants. Cullen knew he created the next evolution of the police state.
Logically, the computer can't read minds, Cullen reasoned with himself. Humans can't even read minds. Humans invented the concept of mind reading. It's a construct of the imagination. This computer knows how likely an action is. That's technically not reading minds, but it's close. All I see is a blue glow. All I hear is a constant whirl. Does it know what I'm about to do?
Instantly, siren's went off. A thick, clear plastic wall slammed down in front of the computer between him. As soon as it did, uniformed guards came in the door behind Cullen. They apprehended him.
"No! You don't know what it's capable of! Only I know how to shut it down!" Cullen said. Too late. He was already in handcuffs. They put a cover over his head. The last thing he saw was the blue glow of the supercomputer mainframe.

MFA Assignments: Read my Journey of Growth
Cerita PendekIt's happened. I enrolled in an MFA program. Also, it's non-traditional. Traditionally, people become better writers as they work on their MFA. Will that happen to me? You be the judge.
