"Where'd she come from?"
"Why is she here?"
"Who is she?"
"What will Pan do with her?"
I heard voices and whispers, but they were far away and it was dark. I couldn't quite grasp where and who they came from. There were few to be discovered.
I opened my eyes, still hearing the voices. I wondered for a moment if I had been in an accident and nearby citizens were checking out my situation. But I saw trees, a sky, and boys.
Yes, boys. Boys with dirty faces and messy hair. They all looked very confused, shocked, and even some a bit irritated.
"Step aside, boys." They quickly moved out of the way and a single face popped into my view. "And just who do you think you are?" This boy was a lot older than the others and looked intimidating. One didn't have to think twice about him being the leader.
I eyed him and looked to my right, without turning my head. "I'm positive I'm Lili. I don't think so, I know so." I finally sat up and watched as the boys moved back some more. The leader didn't move an inch. "Where am I? Who are you guys?" I had trust issues, and I was in an unfamiliar place. I had to keep my guard high.
He straightened himself up. "I'm Peter Pan. This, Love, is Neverland. I own the island. I created it."
I wanted to laugh and say he was a liar. But that felt pointless and I was too groggy. "Okay." I shrugged. I finally stood up and dusted off the back of my shirt and shorts.
I took in the new faces and didn't notice a single girl. There were at least ten boys here. I turned back to the boy who was in charge of them all. The other boys wore more raggedy clothing, but he had neater clothes. They weren't up to suit standards, but they were still nicer than what the others wore. He had on a green shirt with rolled sleeves and a V neckline. He wore a belt with his...leggings. It wasn't a typical belt to hold up the leggings. It was used to hold some tools, like a dagger.
He stood tall, at least a head taller than I was, with arms crossed. I wasn't afraid of him. He was just a boy. "So, tell me. What makes me so special? I notice I happen to be the only girl around, and I just want to know why that is. I'm honestly not complaining."
He didn't smile or laugh. "You're really not that special. You're here because my shadow took you as you asked. Whether you remember it or not, you did ask to come here."
"Alright. So apparently I'm the only girl who asks to come to Neverland?"
He lifted his eyebrows in amusement. "Oh no, there's one more girl here. She's what we like to call our maid. You'll meet her soon enough. Most girls who end up here don't last a day. They can't handle this lifestyle. I don't expect you to be here by tomorrow." He waved his hand like I meant nothing.
I smirked. "Is that a challenge? I do love a challenge."
He smirked in return. "If you like it to be. But let's make this a little more interesting, shall we? What shall I get if you do not last? I'm not exactly too fond of women, but I do not ignore the fact that I do love their presence for one reason."
I made a face of disgust. "Don't even tell me, I already know. So, if I don't last you want me to have sex with you?"
"What's that?" a boy asked.
We all ignored his question, and Peter laughed it off. "Really? No, I love their presence because they're weak and easy to kill off. I guess you could call it bloodlust."
"Oh, great. My only option is to stay here or be killed. Since this is a deal, what do I get when I win?" I didn't let his height scare me.
"To stay here, of course." He gestured to the island.
